It's tough enough being goth when your beard is gray and you work part time on a shrimp boat. But the tourists from Texas always tried to get Acanthus to smile for snap shots while he spun records at 1135 Decatur. Then one evening in the smoke filled fais do-do, Acanthus came upon a solution to make eveyone happy.

Maynard at Midnight

One evening in Big Mamou, while hanging out the door of his brother's pick-up truck, Maynard's head dragged on the pavement. The friction energized the neurons of his occipital lobe and enabled Maynard to see the future. Neurologists at Tulane University were fascinated, but Maynard never thought much of it. But when his brother wanted to place a bet on the Saint's game, Maynard saw the potential for his new found clairvoyant ability. During the entire 2009 football season Maynard was seen hanging out of the old Dodge pick-up truck while Mernard sped madly down the blacktop near the catfish ponds in Big Mamou.

Then one evening a wandering possum put an end to Maynard's psychic abilities. Mernard said Maynard should have seen it coming. Maynard said he did, but Mernard didn't. No matter how long he dragged his head down the blacktop Maynard never regained his abilities. He now works at Maisonnat's Funeral Parlor and Taxidermy Shop in Big Mamou Louisiana. Occasionally, when the moon is new, Maynard and Mernard can still be seen speeding down the bayou blacktops attempting to reclaim their glory days of prophecy.

Hippolyte Houdini knew he could be a champion. "Spitz and Phelps are poseurs!" he would chant to anyone who would listen. Every four years since the 1980 games in Moscow, he protested the ommission of individual medley straitjacket swimming in front of the IOC headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Eventually Hippolyte became a fixture outside the IOC, and a imitation bronze statue in his likeness was erected poolside in Athens. Prior to the XXVIII Olympiad, the statue was stolen and never located. Hippolyte continues to search for the statue while training for the time that the International Olympic Committee will recognize his vision and a new day will dawn in the Summer games.

For the longest time, Mrs. Schumate did not realize she had twins in her first grade class, and the Brubacher boys harrassed her unmercifully. George was repentant, but Wilbur never was. Not even after he was made to say ten Hail Marys by Sister O'Dochartaigh.

Today, they sell used automobiles and repossesed cemetery plots in Jigger Louisiana.
