I've only ever seen one other place calling itself Mohawk Mini Mart; that location is on California US-66

This one caught my eye on this pass into Jerome; I had driven by it several other times without paying it a second glance. This time it seemed to call to me.

I have been using this little motel "La Vista" since 2006; 2013 finds it up for sale. Nooooooo!

This place is $70/night (cheap for Sedona), quiet, clean, roomy; and those million dollar Sedona views are right in the back yard.

Don't mess with "my" motel!

Testing out the CamRanger DSLR remote control. I took this shot with the 5D on a tripod while viewing a live view screen from my camera's USB connection via WiFi and my iPad. The little gizmo is about the size of a credit card, about the thickness of a smart phone, and it connects newer Canon and Nikon cameras to iOS, Android and PC/Mac via WiFi.

Slick? Yes.

After a winter spent hammering myself meeting high profile project deadlines it is finally vacation time....and time to post a bit to Flickr as well. Hope all of you have had a good 2013 so far.

Hitting the road again in style! This image is part of what will become a large panorama of the fabled Blue Swallow. Since Kevin and Nancy have taken ownership of the place it has never looked better; now all my pictures from a few years back are hopelessly out of date. This is a good thing!

I'm pretty sure this bus just traveled forward through a rip in the fabric of time. It looks brand new but it whispers 1955 from every curve. Possible? This is, after all, Baker, CA. With all those giant thermometers and extraterrestrials making jerky I suppose anything could happen here...

Seeing her in this shade of blue suddenly makes 2010 seem like a long time ago.

This one? A little bit of light painting with a Coast projector beam high intensity LED flashlight snagged at my local Costco store. The projector feature makes it easy to focus the beam for a well defined, even flood of light. It only took one brief swipe down the sign to get this done, that is one BRIGHT flashlight. $60 at Costco. What a deal!

What, you thought I was going to say sadder but wiser? Nope! No wiser is a lead pipe cinch! And I have a houseful of cats, why be sad :D

Car's lot faster, I am a lot colder, and the camera gear is way better. Still cannot beat a sunny day in May with a cold, cloudy day in December, but that's what was served up the day I passed through.

Ever since spotting this on the cover of Route 66 magazine I wanted to shoot it for myself. There was something really neat about shooting this primitive place with a primitive film camera. It just seemed to suit the place.
