Le château de Saint-Germain-en-Laye, appelé aussi « Château-Vieux » par opposition au « Château-Neuf » aujourd'hui disparu, est une ancienne résidence des rois de France. Il a été le lieu de signature de nombreux traités de paix et d'édits royaux.
Situé dans le centre de Saint-Germain-en-Laye dans les Yvelines, il est aujourd'hui consacré au Musée d'archéologie nationale.
Louis XIV en 1638 naissent au château. De 1661 à 1682, le roi Louis XIV passe une partie importante de son temps à Saint-Germain-en-Laye et il fait aménager par Le Nôtre des jardins à la française et la Grande Terrasse entre 1663 et 1680.
En 1682, Louis XIV, qui était le dernier à résider à Saint-Germain-en-Laye, quitta définitivement les lieux pour s'installer à Versailles. la Cour part définitivement pour Versailles.

The Forest of Saint-Germain-en-Laye or Forêt de Saint-Germain-en-Laye, is a dominial forest of 35 km2 in area which lies in a meander of the River Seine, France. Situated 20 km West of Paris, between Saint-Germain-en-Laye, Maisons-Laffitte, Achères and Poissy, It is situated entirely within the commune of Saint-Germain. Essentially composed of oak (53%) and beech (18%), it is now a forest bordered by built up areas and divided by communication links.
