It looks like this guy was moving much of his household on the back of his three-wheeled bicycle. Queen size bed, cabinets, shelves, and a large television didn't seem to slow him down much.

One of the many structures on Qiong Island (Qiong Dao Jing Qu). Quiong Island is in the center of Beihai (North Sea) Park, of the earliest imperial Chinese gardens dominated by the Tibetan style White Dagoba temple.

The outside walls of some of the buildings are decorated with brass relief. This detail shows a lotus flower.

This door handle was missing, but the detail of these heavy reinforced doors still impresses.

It's odd for folks in the west to imagine that such a sign would even be necessary to a city practically synonymous with throngs of bicycles, but 30 years of economic reform have left Beijing and much of China practically choking on pollution from cars, and made bicycles a far rarer sight.

Outside of the walls of the Forbidden City in Beijing in spring, the plums are sparkling. They start right after the cherries are finished. I missed them, but these are nice consolation prize!
Straight out of camera. Say what you want about Olympus (no don't I don't want to start those wars), that's some nice glass!

Nearly everything is available on a stick. Most of the deep fried animals taste like potato chips. I didn't try these (the crickets tasted like potato chips) but I heard the stinger is a bit numbing.

The unmistakable portrait of Mao is in the background of this guard's portrait. He faces Tiananmen Square in Beijing. Mao's portrait faces out over his tomb on the opposite side of the square while you must pass this guard to enter the Forbidden City, home to Chinese Emperors for centuries.
