Majesty Of Multnomah

El Justy posted a photo:

As far as waterfalls are concerned, capturing Multnomah Falls would be like capturing the Grand Canyon (it is the grand daddy of all Pacific Northwest Waterfalls besides maybe Snoqualmie Falls near Seattle), and never visiting Multnomah Falls in August the amount of tourists highly exceeded even my expectations. This was the busiest waterfall I have ever encountered (with Vernal Fall in Yosemite being a close second) due to its peak season. In fact, we ended up just forgoing pictures of what felt like a Disneyland attraction in the early afternoon and I woke up early the next morning and captured this around 7 a.m. Multnomah Falls really needs no introduction if you are familiar with waterfalls, as it is Oregon's prime advertising piece for showing off the state's natural beauty. It is 635 feet tall but what is interesting is the lengths Oregon advertisers will go to in promoting the natural landmark, claiming it to be the 4th tallest waterfall and the 2nd tallest perennial waterfall in the U.S. Both claims have been shown to be untrue, but at the end of the day, when you see this beast, who cares, it is so gorgeous. What is amazing is in my opinion this is not even the best waterfall in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, I know that is a pretty bold statement, but a couple of waterfalls that I believe are very underrated and without the massive crowds are on the way. If attempting this capture in the afternoon you will no doubt see a flock of tourists all snapping pictures on the Benson Bridge which frames this landmark beautifully. One more note, this image represents Multnomah Falls at its low flow, in the winter and through most of spring the upper tier is much wider and majestic. Enjoy!
