Wild Orchids are blooming this time of year throughout SE United States and the Green-fly Orchid, (Epidendrum conopseum) is no exception. These frost resistant shy flowers can be found nestled among the resurrection ferns on hardwood trees such as the Live Oak and are protected in estuaries and state parks of Florida. This photo was captured in the GTMNERR and shows the dark green leafy base with light green flowers which produces a sweet fragrance.

These federally protected least terns are nesting near St. Augustine, Fl. Dodging rain showers and “dive bombing” terns made for interesting work photographing the interaction between adults and chicks this morning.
