Hen Wallow Falls - Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Large boulders have accumulated at the bottom of the falls. Walking in this area is difficult and caution should be used. There is NO access to the top of the falls.

I found this location along the Oconaluftee River and came back the next day to find the blossoms opening. One of the easier places to setup the tripod and macro lens.

Access from Cosby Campground and Picnic area on Gabes Mountain trail. Hike is over rocks, heavy rots and up hill. The return trip is much easier! There is NO access to the top of the falls.

Unfortunately, the metal turbine was shut down for some renovations. The Park Service has a trailer parked just to the right of this photo. It was hard to see completely down the race because tree branches have grown over it. You can see weeds growing several feet tall to the right of the wooden flume. I don't know if the National Park Service normally does any ground maintenance around the mill.
