Built for the Lansing Transit Railway, a railway that linked the industrial areas of the westbank with the main warehouse district long the eastern border of downtown on the other side of the river, it was transformed into a pedestrian bridge to link both halves of Riverfront Park, though, no aesthetic improvements were ever made.

Steel rises at the Lansing Board of Water & Light REO Town Cogeneration Plant. This is only the front quarter or third of the structure. It's a very deep lot.

A random, unique little rental house (blt. 1896) at the northwestern corner of the Oakland Avenue bridge in Old Town. Almost all of the remaining homes around it have long since been turned into office buildings. It is owned by the Central Free Methodist Church across the street.

The replacement of the Saginaw Street Bridge (built 1928, widened 1955) that carries M-43 across the Grand River began on Monday.

The project will include raising the bridge to accomodate the often flooded Lansing River Trail, shrinking the one-way road down to 4 lanes, and widening the sidewalks. The raising of the bridge is really one of the more major parts of this as the old river trail was almost at the level of the river, meaning that even tiny changes in the level of the river would flood the trail, which is the only direct, two-way connection between Old Town and downtown.

There should be another sign advising pedestrians to look out for cyclists, too. I can't tell you how many times I've seen groups of people take up the entire width of the trail.
