There are a lot of towns on a lot of coasts. There may be some argument, but I would attest that this is the most beautiful town on one of the most beautiful coasts in all of the world. Vernazza in the Cinque Terre region of Italy is an absolutely awe inspiring and magical place. I hope you get the chance to see it for yourself. In case you donât, hereâs what I saw from high up on a cliff looking over this âRunway Modelâ of coastal towns. Happy Holidays!
Element Battleground

Here’s a shot from down near Carmel. My goal was to head into Point Lobos State Park and find a great spot for a sunset. Turns out, due to budget constraints, they now close the park before sunset and scoot everyone one. I thought about fence hopping, but decided (wisely I think) against it and drove the coast and scanned the map for some other access. I found some…sorta and grabbed this shot.
I shouldn’t say “grabbed” as I tool this shot with a ~50 cliff edge less than 1 foot to my right in the pouring rain cleaning my filters (both sides of two) between each shot. It was hellish to say the least, but as it is with photography, I enjoyed every frustrating and trying second of it. I love photography, I love being out there in the elements. I wouldn’t want it any other way. Have a great week everyone.
I’m putting together a series of images for a lady who was looking to fill her home with images of the villages of Cinque Terre. I was fortunate enough to spend thee days there hiking and shooting back in the end of March. As I was digging through the archives to pull out and re-polish some of them for this series, I was lifted by the memories of the trip, the seven hour hikes, the delicious, simple meals, and the awe at which I was in when standing Cliffside and looking at these colorful, historic and simply beautiful villages.
I posted either this photo or a similar one back in early April, but after reworking it slightly, I fell in love with it all over again and felt like sharing. I hope some of you are just getting back from morning shoots, or are recovering from a late night shoots. Have a great Sunday, and happy shooting. Cheers.
Well, turns out I’m a loon and wanted to post again. I can’t help myself! I have all summer to either shoot or process and it’s ALL I DO!
This is a shot from a small road trip along the coast I took with my mom last November. It was so fun showing my mom the beautiful sights from San Louis Obispo up to Sea Ranch. We had a blast, and pretty much were either roaring with laughter or staring in awe of coastal vistas. Not a bad way to get along in life!
This shot is similar to one I posted last year, but I chose a comp from a hair earlier when the light was still hitting the rock, and processed a little cleaner in my opinion.
This is a bit of a rare view of this spot. I took it from a location that was open access “prolly like fifty years ago er whatever”, but which they frown on today. Understandable; it’s a dangerous hike and some people, in fact most people, don’t tread lightly. Alright, I’m really off to Glacier this time. See you on the other side of “going to the sun” road as I follow the spirit of Galen. Peace out. –jared r.
I cannot tell you how much fun I’m having editing now that I can see what I’m dealing with! Turns out that editing on a laptop was never a good idea!
This shot is another shot from last Octobers Boot Camp. This was my last morning with the crew and we woke up just outside of Yosemite with pouring rain, but also with low-lying clouds. We rushed towards the park and set up at the infamous tunnel view and stood in the rain as the sky slowly opened up. On $@%&*! Made a comment about how much we were missing by watching this epic and dynamic scene through our viewfinders. It was pretty snide, and I was thinking there was a chance Breezy was going to through him down the hill in front of us so we could take some snaps of him rolling and careening out of our earshot, but alas everyone kept their cool.
This was a shot I grabbed just as the morning sun broke through for the first time and gave big ol’ El Cap a smooch. There are MILLIONS of shots from this place, but it turns out there’s a reason for that. It has to be one of the most stunning views in the world. Probably not THE most, but definitely one of them. How lucky I am to have it so close, and to have a group of maniacs so eager to stand with me in the rain to see it. Cheers to everyone.
If I don’t post again before I role out, I’m heading to Glacier for a spell to try and grab some shots. Wish me luck. –jared r.
It’s finally over, and I barely made it. I’m not sure I’ve ever been so busy. I’ve barely even had time to keep up with your streams. Sorry. Heading out Saturday morning for a week in Oregon, mostly along the coast. My reach will be Eureka to Salem and I’m looking forward to hitting some known spots and also finding some new ones. If you have any great locals you’d like to help me find, I would absolutely be in your debt. Thank you in advance for any tips, and I hope the light finds you well. Cheers
We have been together now for 13 years, and I could not be happier or more excited to spend the rest of my life with her. Cheers to that.

****better on black****

The countdown has begun. Ten working days left. I’m hoping to hell that the summer is filled with anything other than constant fog on the ocean.
This is yet another shot from the eastern sierra / death valley spring break trip. I was so lucky that it was so fruitful. I’ve never been to DV before, and I was just dumbstruck by the vast amount of variations in the landscape. What a magical place. As someone who HATES the heat, I’ll try to find myself back there next winter for sure, but not before then. :o)
I hope you’re all happily shooting and editing and I hope to run into many of you around cali and the PNW. Cheers,
ps. I just hit the 'purchase' button on my new 27" imac. It will be here in June. I can't get this smile off my face. :0)
There is a profound difference between greeting the morning that leads to your job, and greeting the morning that leads to your passion. This morning was the latter. I’m pretty sure I’ll be adopting highway 395 as my home away from home this summer. It’s just too fantastic a place to stay away for too long. This was a brisk, beautiful morning in the Alabama Hills back in April. Welcome to it. Cheers and happy shooting everyone. Thanks for taking the time to take a look, and for leaving a comment if you see fit.

Still working and cleaning up shop as I prepare for an art show next weekend. I love going though old files and playing around with shots as it gives me a chance to measure where I've come with my editing, but also it allows me to re-live some of the great travels photography has given me the chance to take. This is a shot from last February on a bootcamp trek through the eastern Sierras. Jave, Breezy, Alan and Diego were all over the place in the Alabama Hills this morning while I plunked down in front of Mobius and simply would not budge. Cheers to great photo pals, great photo adventures, and great trips through the archives. -jared r.
