As you walk around Fly Geyser you notice that this thing has a bit of Beauty, and a bit of the beast. A little Jeckyl and a little Hyde. The color however, is like a rainbow on all sides. Cheers and happy shooting.

Having just started getting over a bad chest cold that lasted a week, I decided, like an idiot, to push myself too far. Having shot Lake Tahoe the night before, and also for sunrise, I decided to head to the bay and shoot the Golden Gate on her 75th birthday.

So, on 5 hours of sleep, we hiked up near Slacker Hill, and sat in the cold and the wind for 9 hours snacking on chocolate and beer. Each of the crew carried about three bags, and a chair, and we waited, and waited, and waited.

Just when I started wondering if I had made a mistake, this happened. I wouldn’t have missed it for the world. Cheers. –jared r.

Origin, Badwater, Death Valley NP

Driving out to Badwater in the pouring rain, I was starting to get a little worried that after just barely catching the last light nights before, I was going to again play bad host to my friend Micah and have him in the wrong place at the wrong time. In addition, David had made the drive up from Vegas and seeing him standing in the rain as we pulled in dampened my spirits even more. "Damn", I thought, it was supposed to clear.

We were going to have to play the waiting game, so I figured we may as well make some grilled cheese taco sandwiches. Yea, I invented that by the way and it's delicious. And then something magical started happening, and I'm talking about more then the sandwiches! The clouds on the western mountains began to clear, the sun began to shoot rays through the clouds, and the rain let up. It was go time!

The rest is a bit of a blur. We jumped in the trucks, roared down the road and found a place David knew about where the flats were juicy. As we hustled out to the playa, and then the sky did things I've never seen before in DV; Clearing to the west, storming to the east, and glowing like we were running around in a large tanning bed. David said "Apocalyptic". He was right. Cheers and happy shooting. -jared r.

The second day of our BootCamp photoscursion led Micah and I to Mono Lake just outside Lee Vining, Ca. It was the first time I have gotten ANY color at the lake, and I tried to take full advantage. Just returned from a nearly 1700 mile bootcamp photoscursion over the course of 5 days, with the final 800 miles all coming on the last day. We still managed to shoot 4 locations that day!
Living out of the back of the Tacoma and a bivie sack, my great friend Micah and I were able to get to 11 or 12 different spots in California, and should have enough processing to get us through the summer!
This shot is from the first evening of the trip up in Lake Tahoe before we turned south down the 395. We didn't get the color explosion we were hoping for, but did get some nice illumination on the clouds. …and don't worry, we got some explosions later!

You know the Drill. Slam on the breaks, grab the gear, nearly die on the hike down to the ocean, drop the bag somewhere you hope it won't get soaked, lunge out into the ocean and hope you don't destroy all your hard earned gear as you shoot directly into the waves rushing towards you. It doesn't get much better does it? Cheers.
