Elite women's division of the ITU San Diego World triathlon after the 1500 swim. Gwen Jorgensen (left of center) went on to win the race with a time of 1:59:59.

Olympic distance triathlon is 1500m swim, 40k bike, 10k run.

I raced the following day in the age group (aka has been) division and finished in 2:48:36, a full 9 minutes of which I spent in the transition area taking off my wetsuit and / or changing my shoes.

April 19, 2013 - Fast Transition

A fast transition means waiting until later to put your shoes on.

The following day, when I did my swim to bike transistion, I stopped at the bathroom and then sat down by my bike to put on my shoes. My transition time was an impressive 4 minutes.

The elite women completed their swim to bike transition in a matter of seconds.

Gwen Jorgensen on the bike leg of the ITU World Triathlon race in San Diego. She went on to win the race, running a 33min 10 sec 10k split.
