18ft Tall Jessica in the Buff?

18ft Tall Rabbitie Hare with a nice bum

Taken with my brand spanking new second hand Tokina 11-16 f2.8.
At the weekend Liz and I went to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park for a browse. Walking down the hill I saw one of the best behinds I've seen in a long time (not including Liz's of course.)
When we got closer all became apparent, call me a weirdo but I've always had a thing for Jessica Rabbit.
Anyway the bumpf.....

"I sculpt characters and beings - the dogs, the hares, the Minotaur - are all characters beyond animal form. I am not interested in making a replica. If you would put a real hare next to one of mine you would see great differences" – Sophie Ryder

Sophie Ryder was born in London, England, in 1963.

Ryder’s work includes human, animal and mythological figures, frequently melding forms to combine the attitudes and instincts of each. Over several years she has evolved an ongoing narrative around the female / mother figure of the Lady-Hare; a hybrid with the head of a hare, and its body modeled on Ryder’s own. Two examples of her Lady-Hare, Sitting, 2007 and Crawling, 1999 can both be found in Lower Park, by the Cameliia House at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

I snapped the snapper snapping snappers

Iamamanc posted a photo:

The Angel of the North

On the way up North we stopped off, just like every one else does, to have a look at our northern angel. It's big. Big and rusty. Lot's of peeps snapping away, so I snapped the snapper snapping snappers.
Anyway according to Wiki
The Angel of the North is a contemporary sculpture, designed by Antony Gormley, which is located in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, England. It is a steel sculpture of an angel, 20 metres (66 ft) tall, with wings measuring 54 metres (177 ft) across. The wings do not stand straight sideways, but are angled 3.5 degrees forward; Gormley did this to create "a sense of embrace".

It stands on a hill on the southern edge of Low Fell, overlooking the A1 and A167 roads into Tyneside, and the East Coast Main Line rail route, south of the site of Team Colliery.
This is the bit that I like
According to Gormley, the significance of an angel was three-fold: first, to signify that beneath the site of its construction, coal miners worked for two centuries; second, to grasp the transition from an industrial to information age, and third, to serve as a focus for our evolving hopes and fears.
Really?

Lindisfarne Castle, Holy Island

Iamamanc posted a photo:

The castle is located in what was once the very volatile border area between England and Scotland. Not only did the English and Scots fight (really??), but the area was frequently attacked by Vikings. The castle was built in 1550, around the time that Lindisfarne Priory went out of use, and stones from the priory were used as building material. It is very small by the usual standards, and was more of a fort. The castle sits on the highest point of the island, a whinstone hill called Beblowe.
Lindisfarne's position in the North Sea made it vulnerable to attack from Scots and Norsemen, and by Tudor times it was clear there was a need for a stronger fortification, although obviously, by this time, the Norsemen were no longer a danger. This resulted in the creation of the fort on Beblowe Crag between 1570 and 1572 which forms the basis of the present castle. Located on Holy Island, near Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, England, much altered by Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1901. The island is accessible from the mainland at low tide by means of a causeway.

Very Enid Blyton

Bamburgh Castle

I showed this to Liz to get her feedback and she said, "it looks very Enid Blyton" so that's the title.
Anyway, another monotone day in Northumberland lends it's self to this kind of image.

Built on a basalt outcrop, the location was previously home to a fort of the native Britons known as Din Guarie and may have been the capital of the British kingdom. In c.420 until 547, the year of the first written reference to the castle, the citadel was captured by the Anglo-Saxon ruler Ida of Bernicia (Beornice) and became Ida's seat. It was briefly retaken by the Britons from his son Hussa during the war of 590 before being relieved later the same year.
His grandson Æðelfriþ (easy for you to say:) passed it on to his wife Bebba, from whom the early name Bebbanburgh was derived. The Vikings destroyed the original fortification in 993.

The Normans built a new castle on the site, which forms the core of the present one. William II unsuccessfully besieged it in 1095 during a revolt supported by its owner, Robert de Mowbray, Earl of Northumbria. After Robert was captured, his wife continued the defence until coerced to surrender by the king's threat to blind her husband.
Bamburgh then became the property of the reigning English monarch. Henry II probably built the keep. As an important English outpost, the castle was the target of occasional raids from Scotland. In 1464 during the Wars of the Roses, it became the first castle in England to be defeated by artillery, at the end of a nine-month siege by Richard Neville, 16th Earl of Warwick.

We parked at the top of the hill by the whale bones just next to Captain Cook's statue and walked down the steps to the bandstand. This was before dark and we were getting hungry so I took a few long exposure shots (it's times like these when I wished I still smoked.)
Anyway that's St Mary's on the hill, you can just see the Abby to the left and the steps going up the hill to the right. Love Whitby and the Magpie chippy

This looks like the leftovers from an old jetty or pier. Anyway I thought it made for an interesting shot. Liz thought it looked like a Biblical Easter scene. Too much sunshine in the 70's me thinks but at a pinch I can see where she's coming from.

Well when you enjoy doing something you just want to keep on doing it. Hence another Long Exposure Shot, this time on Spurn Point.
It was quite a misty, overcast kind of day in fact the sky was just solid grey, but hey, at least I wasn't freezing my bits off this week. I took Liz along to administer first aid if frostbite did attack but alas, none was needed although she did Sherpa my kit around admirably which I suppose did save a hernia, so all in all - well done.
Love this place, we had a spot of Sunday lunch in the Crown & Anchor to round the day off nicely - happy days..............

I've not been around for a bit but I'm here now, just want to say sorry to my flickr pals.
Liz in on half term at the moment so we decided to go away for a couple of days. The north was targeted, Bamburgh in particular because of it's closeness to some other nice places we (I) wanted to visit. Lindisfarne, Alnwick and Berwick to name but a few. Anyway this is a shot of the Priory on Lindisfarne. I was really brassed off cos there was no sky at all on the days we were up there, just grey and more grey, I'm not one to moan (ask the missus) so overcome and adapt - et-voila black and white shots to capture the mood (but really because there was no bloody sky as I already said).
Anyway there's a few more to follow from the trip. Hope you like them.

This is where the smugglers used to land back in the day when men were men, rather them than me, having to hump a barrel of rum and some fags up that cliff. The original booze cruise.

Now this was a bloody hike. All the way from the top of the cliff, down a very narrow steep path which culminated in a metal staircase, (like a fire escape) onto a shingle limestone beach-ie type thing. The noise from the waves was very loud, it was quite claustrophobic due to being surrounded by very steep cliffs, loud water in front and that bloody staircase behind.

It was worth it though, impressive doesn't cover it............oh and it was cold!!

Tonight is a nice clear-ish sort of night, I'm not working in the morning, I could do with a bit of fresh air....................... I think I'll go and stand on the Hessle foreshore, freeze my nuts off for an hour or so and rustle up some night shots of the very impressive Humber Bridge.

I lit the old metalwork and rocks at the front of the pic with a small torch for about 20 seconds the whole thing took just under 5 minutes @ f.13 ISO 100.
Please do have a look at it full-screen from a distance.

We went for some fish n chips at the Magpie, very nice indeed, by the time we came out it had turned dark. It was still very cold though especially standing around for a 25 second exposure, actually it was real brass monkey weather, anyway this is one of the after dark shots.

I thought I'd have a go at this long exposure lark so I got my self a cheap variable ND filter, packed my tripod and headed out to the East Coast Siberia......., Hornsea. It was absobloodylutely freezing. The wind blowing off the North Sea made the temperature drop to about minus 56 or something ridiculous. The wind was whipping up the sea a bit which is well sort of what I was looking for so there's no real complaints there. Typical, I take a freezing day, to take photos, that take about a minute to take, what a mug!!! I tried to have a pee while I was waiting for it to process but it was so bloody cold .........................eyes watering so much I could hardly see,my nose was running like a tap and my best mate had disappeared like a tortoises head retreating into it's shell...........so I legged it.
Anyway, back at the ranch I decided that black and white makes it look, arty and cold, Cold is necessary, cos it was.
For those who need to know this was done using f.20 @ iso 100, for 25 seconds.

How to spend a Sunday on the North Sea Coast in the middle of bloody winter, puddled.
It wasn't long after taking this one that I legged it. The cold was almost unbearable. I suppose it's my own fault for turning up in flip flops and a T-shirt............
