Serpentine at 11 mm

Shot out of the bus window on my way from Santiago de Chile to Mendoza in March 2011. Very scenic drive over the Uspallata Pass (spanish name Paso de los Libertadores). This is the first part (from Santiago to the border). It's a serpentine road and the highest peak is 3.834 m high, while also passing the highest mountain Americas: the Aconcagua (6.962 m). It was so beautiful that I did the Argentinean side twice :).

And this was my first shot shortly after I realized what am I missing while reading a book ("Into the Wild" by Jon Krakauer :)). So I put it away and tried to capture the beautiful scenery. Not that easy when you got throwing back and forth in your seat every few seconds ;).

Ruta 40 - Motito

A motorcycle driver on the Ruta 40 in Northern Argentina (Catamarca province). As this is an unpaved part, you find mostly 4x4s or motorcycles.

The Route 40 is the longest road in Argentina and one of the largest in the world - more than 5000 km. It starts close to Rio Gallegos (where I live now) in Patagonia (so at the south east end of the American continent) at sea level and goes up until almost the border to Bolivia (5000 m high).

I made this distance within 5 days by car and bus - quite a ride ;). Already the roadtrip by car (a circuit in the northern provinces) were 4000 km.
After more than one year in Argentina I know almost every cm of the Ruta 40. Just missing a small part between El Bolson and Perito Moreno (Chubut province).

Near Belén, Catamarca, Northwest Argentina

Since there is this trend to make good looking pictures ugly, I also wanted to play a bit :D. Umm and now shoot me ;).

[The truth is that this picture looked to ordinary to upload it as it was.]

Valles Calchaquies, Salta province, Argentina

This is shortly after the highest point of the Cuesta de Obispo, which is 3348 m above sea level. Definitely one of the most amazing landscapes I've ever seen. It's on the way from Cachi to Salta. I would recommend everyone to do this ride and bring some time (they offer day trips from Salta to do only the Quebrada de las Conchas: you would miss this part!).

I was passing a little village 2 hours north of Belén when this kids had a lunch break from school. They were kinda curious about the strangers. Obviously there are not many people passing by. So I asked them out of the car if I can take their picture. And as you can see they felt very proud & happy. This was really in the middle of nowhere.
