We stopped at one of our local parks looking for some sandhill cranes that you can see nesting by the nature center. We couldn't see the cranes but when we got to the far side of the nature center, there was a red-tailed hawk feeding on a black squirrel. The hawk watched us carefully for 5 minutes and then went back to eating. When other people walked down the tail about 25 yards away, the hawk watched them and rarely paid attention to us. One of the park rangers can out and told us that the hawk caught the squirrel at the bird feeder.

After watching the hawk for about 30 minutes, my wife spotted a sandhill crane walking down the nature trail! I guess they like the trails too.
