Winter finally came to Utah with the first snow of the year (November 10 2012) I've been carrying the photos around in my camera for a while, thought I'd get them up finally.

Abandoned Mine at Genola Utah

This is the mine that was used in the 1999 movie “Bats” which stared Lou Diamond Philips and Dina Meyer. The mine is located in Genola, Utah. We weren’t able to get as close to the mine as I wanted because the dirt road looked like something you’d want a 4 wheel drive to tackle and since my wife has recently had knee surgery she wasn’t up to hiking in; later this spring (or Summer) I’d like to go back using a major off road vehicle and get up close and personal with this location.

Metal Sculpture in Progress

This is the beginning of what is turning out to be a very large project to construct a solid steel arch with fence and a Metal Art gate. Here the arch has been completed and installed. All four legs of the arch are sunk a full tweleve inches into the ground and cemented into place. The arch itself is constructed of one inch solid steel square bar (fully welded), it is forty inches wide on the inside edges and from the sidewalk to the top of the inside edge the arch stands a full seven feet. When completed the project will be as much a metal sculpture as it is added security.

The fence sections have now been completed and installed. The long (verticle) rails are four feet high and the shorter rails are three feet high. Each of the rails is three-quarter inch, steel, square bar and the horizontal rails are laser cut channel.
The inner edges of the horizontal rails are welded to the arch, and on the outter edges the verticle rails are each five feet long and have been sunk a full tweleve inches into the ground and cemented into place.
