A word about the TV (an RCA): We didn't have one at our house, so we would go over to Grandma and Grandpa's house to watch TV. I can remember watching Super Circus with Mary Hartline, and I had a Mary Hartline doll. I also had a cardboard Super Circus. That show was on every Saturday morning, and I just loved it! We also used to watch "I Remember MaMa," a big favorite because it had a Scandinavian (Norwegian, but that's OK) story line. Grandpa and Grandma had this very same TV set for many years. When they lived with us on Country Club Rd., we got used to having daily TV shows, so after they moved, Daddy went out and bought a used Emerson table model, about the same size as the one shown in this picture. Then we could watch the 3 TV channels in the area: WTIC (channel 3 - now WFSB), WTNH (channel 8) and WHNB (channel 30 - now WVIT). We had to pick up Channel 30 with rabbit ear antennas. Of course, we had a TV antenna on our roof - everyone who had a TV had one. I remember Daddy used to like a show called, "Quo Vadis." I don't remember what it was about, but it had that dramatic name! My mother would say, "you have to be quiet, Quo Vadis is on." Grandpa's favorite TV viewing was what he called, "the fights" on Saturday nights, late. Another show that was a tear-jerker, but a family favorite, was called "Queen for a Day." That was on in the afternoon, and a "poor" woman would be picked from the audience and given lots of gifts. Naturally, there was Jackie Gleason's Honeymooners, and Milton Berle, George Burns and Gracie Allen, and THE ED SULLIVAN SHOW. We always watched his show on Sunday nights! I could go on and on, but I have to go call Topo Gigio.

Bradley Barnes received this Ferris Wheel for Christmas in 1893. It is the year the Ferris Wheel was invented and erected at the Columbian Exhibition in Chicago.

Almost all of the toys displayed belonged to Bradley Barnes. However, the miniature tea set shown here belonged to his mother, Alice Bradley Barnes.
