a peculiar site we saw at harewood these are the flamingos in the birdgarden, but an egyptian goose had chosen to bring her kids up here too!

this is the lovely pair of adders i sat with for over an hour - face to face in the top shot, and below showing a wider shot of them

thanks very much to feorag99 (who works with The Sanctuary Morpeth) she told me that you can tell if a snake is venomous by their eyes

venomous snakes have elliptical pupils and constricting snakes have round pupils

see below cut-outs of a few of my shots to demonstrate this

love these guys, and look at the pair below we spotted – how cute?

and just read something fascinating about them on the bbc site – apparently they can lay eggs and give birth to live young - they lay eggs in warm climates, and give birth to live young in cold climates, amazing!

so iv been bughunting a bit this weekend!

i remember the first time i saw these green tiger beetles i was amazed that they were in the uk as they look so exotic with their iridescent metallic colours and incredible mouth parts!

i think rats are lovely and it's always fab seeing them in the wild, this one was at a nature reserve

my flickr has been messing around a lot recently – not uploading shots, not showing me other people’s shots, not adding shots to maps, taking ages of time to add tags/comments, not posting through to facebook etc so i haven’t uploaded anything this weekend – hopefully it’s all back up and running now!

this is one of the bigger pups, and at this age they are left to fend for themselves

a lot of them wriggle about which presumably helps them moult, and a few of them were still calling out like this little cutie!

another of my little gang from the park

it’s hard to tell the youngsters now as they all have their winter coats on and have doubled in size!

it was hilarious the other day as where they are there is a wall and it’s in a wind-trap so all the leaves had piled-up in a heap there

when the squirrels arrived i had put some food out but they just looked at me as if they were unsure of the leaves

so i threw a nut for them and one leaped to get it – then promptly disappeared in the pile of leaves!

he then went mad, springing about all over the place and so agitated he couldn’t get back on his wall!

im guessing he was this year’s youngster and hadn’t seen leaves like this before – after a few nuts he seemed to get used to it

and below is one of my jays, at one point i had two pairs!

im just so thankful to ‘the sanctuary’ in morpeth for all the wonderful work they do saving wildlife like this little fella

and just a reminder not to feed hedgehogs bread&milk there is information of what to do if you find one here www.britishhedgehogs.org.uk
