they keep all their youngsters together in a crèche and all look after them

this is one of the wild herons at harewood

i noticed he held his leg out in an odd way, holding it up in front of home rather than putting it down on the floor as they usually do

i spoke to one of the wardens there who confirmed that he has always had it like this and that possibly it had been damaged when he was kicked out the nest by his parents

he flies ok, and as he lives at harewood he has the wardens looking out for him so he should be fine with his slight disability

these are the whooper swans at martin mere, who have started leaving and will soon all be gone

the other day there was about 1,500 on the lake, it was an amazing sight – and an even more amazing sound! – you really appreciate why ours are called ‘mute’ swans!

a while ago i made a new friend on twitter called ‘the great british farming project’, and the other day i went up to visit them

these chickens are a rare breed called marsh daisies!

and the below shot is of grizzle who was a bit under the weather the other day so wishing her all the best and hope she gets betters soon x

wow it was lovely to see the sunshine this weekend!

spent about an hour sat with these guys as the sun shone on the water, making it ridiculously contrasty but provided a fab bokeh background for these graceful creatures

on the main lake a few looked like they had paired up already, and a number of the males were puffed up and looking quite splendid!

the weather here is bugging me again now, im getting sick of playing find the wheelie bin when i get home as it’s so windy, and this morning’s snow was a fun addition to rush-hour again!

this little chap was being buffeted by the wind the other day too

i did my great ‘big garden birdwatch’ at harewood house, and in my hour i saw these chaps and 13 red kites (all at once) (i did check with the rspb that is was ok)

i feel privileged that not many days don’t go by now where i don’t see at least one red kite! (see below)

i took this at harewood, as mentioned im not a huge fan of the bird garden there, but they have a lot of wild birds there like these fab herons

this fella looked like he was enjoying the sun on his face, he actually looked like he was smiling!

well after having snow all friday night, saturday was like a new canvas

then a bit of rain and a temperature increase saturday night – and sunday morning it was all gone!

a bit of cold weather and the robins are out in force, tolerating each other just long enough to get to the feeders

when i snapped this little chap there were four at one feeder

. . . and the snow did come, not over the weekend to make pretty photos – but for monday morning to disrupt traffic – typical!
