Yes, it is HOT here in DC! And in the 102 degree heat yesterday afternoon I chose to go golfing...and forgot my water bottle. Here's a picture of what I came very close to jumping in as I walked back to the metro.

Tonight I took a walk to the National Cathedral for some much needed spiritual reflection. When I got there, I found that I had made it just in time for the beginning of the Florence Nightingale Centennial Commemorative Global Service Celebrating Nurses. The service was held to honor her legacy and that of all of the nurses and healthcare workers who followed in her footsteps.

The service today reminded me of the importance of compassion and dedication. And so I thank all of our nurses and healthcare workers who look after us in our times of need.

I was out practicing with the camera at the zoo again this morning. I find I get my best zoo shots when I can manage to get up and out the door early enough to make it there before the indoor exhibits open. The animals are a bit more active then...like this little guy. He found a toy to play with and kept rolling around with it in the water. Fun to watch and gave me a good opportunity to practice shooting something that was moving and unpredictable.

The zoo seems to be getting somewhat back to normal, although most of the animals were inside by the time I got there Friday afternoon. This photo is of one of the storks I took in the outside aviary back in January.

I have no people to practice my photography on, so I'm using the zoo animals instead. None of them have signed any model releases yet, but I'll take my chances.

Much of the zoo is still closed off due to dangerous conditions caused by the massive snows. Some of the outdoor cages that were within view seemed to have suffered some damage. I hope the stuff that is still blocked off is not in too bad a shape.

Woke up this morning to a significant snow accumulation in the District. This was a very light and fluffy snow. By noon, it had all melted of the trees.

Smithsonian castle can be seen in through the trees.
