Summer in Greece

We just got back from our vacation on the island of Kefalonia (Cephalonia), Greece. What a lovely island with lots of photogenic scenery. The sun was shining the whole week, and we got pretty much baked in the Greek sun.

About the placement of the copyright watermark: I've recently checked some of my photographs through Google's image search, and found some of them being used on different sites without my permission or even credited to me, usually with my copyright watermark cropped out, and sometimes even with their own watermark. This makes me very angry, but I still want to share some of my work here on flickr. The only solution for now is to use watermarks that are harder to crop out. The downside of course is the effect they have on the photos themselves.

Another photo taken from the same spot as the previous one. This one quite a few hours later though. Here I changed from the 24-70L to the 50/1.4 to get more of the feeling of the evening without amping up the ISO (I hadn't brought a tripod). Shot at f/1.4.

Post processing in Lightroom 3, I removed three lamp posts in Photoshop CS5.

We spent my wife's birthday at the Nådendal Spa Hotel. This was the view from our balcony.

Post processing in Lightroom 3, I removed three lamp posts (and shadows) in Photoshop CS5. I was pleasantly surprised that the content aware tool worked fine even in black & white.

Watching other people's photostreams and getting inspired by them is one of the best things about Flickr.

I would like to dedicate this "collage" to Krista for having such a wonderful and inspiring photostream. If you haven't come across it yet, I recommend you having a look.

(The left photo was taken with the 40D+100L macro and the right was taken with the 5D+85/1.8)

My wife and I took a walk by the river today. The colors in trees are fantastic and just begging to be photographed. The color of the river was slightly tweaked in PP.

Within the Monte Palace Tropical Garden there was a rather large Chinese Garden. I found this lion (Buddha symbol) statue there hidden in the green grass.

The beauty of the still ocean. I really like how this turned out. You can just see the clouds low in the sky. Would make a quite nice, tranquil desktop background. Shot from our balcony at the Cliff Bay Hotel in Funchal, Madeira.

This photo of Santa María, a replica of Columbus's ship was shot from the Cliff Bay Hotel, Funchal (Madeira) (yes.. the sail that close!) :) They take tourists out on this ship for excursions. It seemed very popular.

Enjoying a "healthy" breakfast on the suit balcony :) We had to order breakfast to the room one morning, just to get a photo op out of it :)

Strobist information: Two 430 EX triggered by a ST-E2 in E-TTL2 mode, one on each side bounced via the wall and ceiling to get a really warm and soft light. The 430s were working really hard since the ambient light was quite bright.

A view over the Monte Palace Tropical Garden, Funchal. I thought this spot was particularly beautiful, but the dynamic range was just far beyond the capabilities of my camera's sensor even though I shoot RAW (I always do). The pond was where the photos of the duck and swan was taken, and the house was a porcelain museum (I think, we didn’t go there). At this point we had made our way through about half the garden.

The pond in the Monte Palace Tropical Garden (Funchal) is home to a lot of ducks and swans. They even had their own little house. These swans are truly beautiful creatures.

These little "cute" lizards where everywhere on Madeira. But as soon you got close to them, they got scared and run away and hid. They were pretty quick too. I was able to capture a few (on digital film) of these during the trip, and here is one of them. This was captured in the Monte Palace Tropical Garden in Funchal Madeira.
