The time has come the walrus said

We sailed out of Darwin Harbour on an outgoing tide, a slow sail around the corner to Tapa Bay the beginning of the next big leg in our adventures of circumnavgating OZ, our sail around the big block, the first huge adventure will be when we sail into the Kimberley's in far north Western Australia.

The Way Out

the boat ramp is the way out to the sea for most small boats, even when the tide is way out you wheel the boat down the ramp and then haul it across the firm wet sand. Also the ramp is the way out of the water at high tide.

on the beach outside the sailing club looking out to where my boat is anchored, it takes about 10mins to get here, by the time MrJ and I dinghy in and walk up the beach

it is 2130h, I'm sitting in the cockpit with the lights out peering into the computer screen, checking email and Flickr. tonight's topic is liquid, so I turn around and take a quick shot of the darknees on the water and the shore lights reflecting in that darkness - who needs to turn on a light when all this is happening

ODC - A TOUGH ACT TO FOLLOW is the topic for 25 March 2013 - I have a Flickr friend in Darwin who does the most beautiful long exposure and/or timelapse photography of sunsets, sunrises, waterscapes. Here I am out there on a moving boat, racing across the sea, trying to get a decent shot and/or several shot with a not so good camera that just does not do the trick. My friends work is always a touch act to follow

coming across the Gulf of Carpentaria we were visited by many dolphin pods, swiiming with the boat, playing between the hull for a while and then swimming off on their merry way - we were so lucky

Dolphins are considered a sacred friend of sailors fishermen, they have the good fortunes of man in mind and their presence indicates that you are under their protection.

the beach in Watson's Bay on Lizard Island Far North Queensland is a great place to relax - it took us eight hours to sail the 55n/miles from Cooktown on the coast to Lizard Island in the frar north Great Barrier Reef.

The white-bellied or white-breasted sea-eagle (Haliaeetus leucogaster) is a majestic bird of prey that lives near the ocean and some other large bodies of water. The bill is powerful and hooked, so it can easily kill and dismember its prey. The wingspan is a massive 2.2 metres from wingtip to wingtip. Female white-bellied sea-eagles reach up to 84 centimetres long, whereas males are smaller with a maximum length of 76 centimetres. The head, neck, breast and underparts are snowy white in colour, sometimes with very thin grey streaks. The back, wings and tail are almost black and the tail has a broad white tip.

We anchor west of the old jetty toward the sandy beach but well out from the shore reef. Directly above us are the buildings of the ranger station. We put up AR’s covers had a quick wash-down and then dinghied ashore to report into the ranger’s station.

Sailing Up Cape York - We were sailing for Barrow Island and the anchorage in Ninian Bay but this proved not to be any good in these strong trade winds which are kicking up the seas and rolling on into the bay. We head for Cape Melville in confused seas, passing Pippon Island at 1645hs to finally anchor a couple of miles into Bathurst Bay just as another squall covers us with a heavy cloud of rain making visibility almost zero.
