DB Schenker's 67027 'Rising Star' stands at Doncaster working East Coast's 1A33 1434 Wakefield Westgate-London Kings Cross. Due to engineering works between Doncaster and Wakefield Westgate, electric trains were diverted via Cross Gates into Leeds to Wakefield. Class 67s were applied and taken off at Retford.

East Midlands Trains' 43064 and 43046 pass Newton-le-Willows working 5Z46 1545 Liverpool Lime Street to Derby Etches Park Sidings, running 3 minutes early. This train was hired by Virgin Trains from East Midlands Trains to commute Liverpool FC fans from London following their unfortunate defeat to Chelsea in the 2012 FA Cup Final at Wembley. This was the empty stock working back to Derby.

East Midlands Trains' 43046 and 43064 pass Rainhill working 1T00 1045 London St Pancras International to Liverpool Lime Street, running 4 minutes late. This train was hired by Virgin Trains from East Midlands Trains to commute Liverpool FC fans from London following their unfortunate defeat to Chelsea in the 2012 FA Cup Final at Wembley. As far as I am aware, this is the first HST to visit the Rainhill line since at least 2005 when Virgin Trains still used them.

East Midlands Trains' 43061 and 43044 pass Lea Green working 5Z41 0545 Derby Etches Park Sidings to Liverpool Lime Street, running 21 minutes late. This was hired from East Midlands Trains by Virgin Trains to commute Liverpool FC fans down to Wembley for the 2012 FA Cup Final match against Chelsea. As this was Bank Holiday weekend, the WCML was riddled with engineering works- works planned at least 18 months in advance. Virgin Trains managed to operate at least four direct trains from Liverpool Lime Street to London Euston during the morning, and this train ran from Liverpool Lime Street to London St Pancras via Manchester Piccadilly, Chesterfield and Leicester.

East Midlands Trains' 158773 passes Lea Green working 1R50 0520 Nottingham-Liverpool Lime Street, running 2 minutes late. Due to engineering works between Hunts Cross and Liverpool Lime Street, East Midlands Trains services were diverted from Manchester Oxford Road to Liverpool Lime Street via Chat Moss, calling additionally at Newton-le-Willows for replacement bus services to Warrington Central and Widnes. First Transpennine Express ran the usual route via Birchwood and Warrington Central, but called additionally at Hunts Cross and terminated. Passengers would then be allowed to either jump on a replacement bus service calling at Liverpool South Parkway, or hop on any Merseyrail service to Moorfields.

East Coast's 43312 snakes away from Edinburgh Waverley with 43208 leading working the 0952 Aberdeen-London Kings Cross service. At one time these were my favourite trains, but unfortunately over the past few years their extremely loud, screaming Valenta engines were replaced by quiet, rumbling MTU engines. Their Valenta engines back in the 1970s allowed the class to become the fastest diesel train in the world, travelling at a max speed of 147mph. Nowadays, these trains are limited to 125mph. This speed record has never officially been broken.
