here's a night cityscape tip. go out on cloudy nights so that the reflected city lights will even out the exposure (if that's what you're going for). i blended exposures here, but really didn't need to because there was quite a bit of ambient light from the clouds.

On our way back from Mariposa Grove, the weather was clearing a little bit. The dynamic range was off the charts. This is 3 bracketed portrait orientation shots with my 35mm prime. I made intermediate -1/+1 exposures using Capture NX--these are essential for decent automated exposure blending. Stitched 3 x -2/-1/0/+1/+2 and exposure blended with Hugin (which uses enfuse, I think). The resolution at 4500px wide is pretty good, but maybe at best only slightly better than single 35mm shot on a full-frame sensor. Those trees down in the valley are huge, so viewing this large might give a sense of the scale of El Capitan.

Bachelor and Three Graces, Mariposa Grove, Yosemite National Park

Mariposa Grove is about an hour south of Yosemite Valley near Wawona. Sequoias feel like they belong to another time. This photo doesn't capture their scale, but I liked the comp and the soft glow on the Three Graces. Sequoias can grow close together because they share root systems. With my 35mm prime.
