Raja Virbhadra Singh, the Union Steel minister of India has been chief minister of Himachal Pradesh thrice. Born at Sarahan, Himachal Pradesh, he is son of Raja Padam Singh. A product of St. Stephen’s college, Delhi, he was also an honorary captain in the Indian army.

Every year the royal family visits the FAAG MELA to seek the blessings of local gods. After the first deity left the palace Raja Virbhadra got nostalgic, as silent tears can be seen in his eyes. It was a powerful moment and more than honor for me to click this photograph.

The arrival of deities

The arrival of these three main dieties marks the opening of the famous FAAG MELA of Rampur Bushahr,Shimla.
FAAG is derived from the hindi word "FALGUN" which implies spring season.
FAAG MELA is organized to welcome the spring season & seek the blessings of local gods.

24 kms from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh is this beautiful place called Rewalsar.

The tale goes that moved by the spiritual dedication of “Mandharva” (daughter of a local king), “Padmasambhava” - the second Buddha visited Rewalsar to teach her. But agonized by hearsay the king burned “Padmasambhava” alive on a wooden pyre.

When the smoke did not clear for three days, the king visited the spot only to find a beautiful lake formed on that spot with “Padmasambhava” sitting on a lotus. Realizing his mistake, the king married “Mandharva” to “Padmasambhava”.
