The setting sun in the west lights up Phelps Peak to the east of Heart Lake...which is indeed in the heart of the Adirondack High Peaks [mountains over 4000 ft]
I was pleased with the watercolor effects in this digital painting.

Autumn color comes early to the Adirondack Mountains, but it lasts for a while, as the red maples and then other trees turn color. This view is from my kayak on Heart Lake.

It's very helpful to me when birds stand still and pose, since my small camera does not have a long telephoto lens. Normally I just admire the crack bird shots of various talented friends on Flickr! But these birds were in a wildlife rehabilitation center and seemed content to stand around in the sunshine. It was an open-air park, and the Wood Storks may have flown in on their own.

The Yellow-crowned Night Heron is not a common bird in NY. I have never seen one, so I was pleased to see this one.

The old Trinity Church in Copley Square stands right across from the very modern John Hancock Building. Boston is full of this kind of juxtaposition...history and modern, busy city mixed together. Photo is from Dec. 2011.

These falls are well-known in the northeast, not because they are huge, but because they are spectacularly split by an enormous boulder lodged in the chute. Hudson River School painters were fond of painting these falls, which have long been a popular destination in the Berkshires area.

Family members have climbed over the boulders to be closer to the falls...but l was content to get shots from afar! We did like the light dusting of fresh snow on these rocks.

Late afternoons sun was lighting up the colors. My daughter took this photo of me in my little kayak [NOT on Feb.3, 2013, either! More like October of 2009]. The view is to the south, and the mountain is Algonquin, the 2nd highest in the state, over 5,000 ft in elevation.

A typical rushing stream in the Adirondacks is full of boulders. Many will be pale-colored or white anorthosite rock. This photo has been enhanced digitally.

Hiking along the Withlacoochee River, I came upon a forest of cypress trees with their many wooden 'knees' surrounding the trunks.
