Heroin and Syringe

CrashTestAddict posted a photo:

Heroin from Detroit, 7 Mile & Van Dyke area, $20 pack. Insulin syringe easily obtainable from most pharmacies. An old associate of mine let me photograph this. I no longer shoot the drug, smoke, or toot it. Fact is, I never snorted, or smoked it anyway. The first time I used it, I mainlined it back in 1969. It cost $1 for a "penny cap," a reddish, or clear capsule the dope came in, and laid my ass out for about 10 hours. Potent stuff back in the day. I was nodding, and drooling, and often found my chin tacked to my chest. About 36 years later, I finally was able to stop after numerous treatment attempts including methadone, in and outpatient, IOP, Suboxone, and 20+ years in prison.

This stuff will bring you to your knees in a heartbeat, if not kill you. I am one of the lucky ones who survived a nightmare Hollywood couldn't create, including dying once.

Photo given to me by a recovering addict who is in recovery now. He had a heron habit. The blood in the syringe is to check for a good vein hit, and also to draw back, and retrieve every last molecule of drug out of the syringe. Additionally, it is a ritualistic behavior as well--part of the addiction.
