Baboon Wildfire

Beaver County, S.W. Utah
Map location is approximate. The close hills are just west of Parowan and
Paragonah (Para-Goon-ah) along I-15.
Update; Saturday a.m. It's grown to 19,000 acres and is 0 percent contained.
The fire was started by lightning on Wednesday (I took this on Thursday).
It was quickly dubbed the Baboon Fire because it threatened communication
facilities on top of Baboon Peak.

This is the pairs 4th year breeding here. these are their 9th, 10th &11th set of Eaglets.
2011 Stats/Info:
1st egg laid - 02/23/2011 / Hatched 04/02/2011

3rd egg laid - 03/02/2011 / Hatched 04/06/2011

Below are two strings of info that you can use to ‘Fly To’ the nest site and get a wonderful birds eye view using Google Earth. Copy and paste either one of them into the search space in the upper left corner of Google Earth. You can also use the street address in any map service (MapQuest etc.) then zoom out to get an idea of where Decorah is in the state.

Things to look for in the satellite view will be the fish hatchery across the street and to the south of the nesting tree. Off to the right (east) will be the roadway we see cars driving by on and the bridge over the stream that passes below the nesting tree. Zooming out or moving the map to the north two miles you can see downtown Decorah. Two miles due east is Decorah municipal airport where most weather conditions are generated from (KDEH elevation 1155ft.).

15 miles south of Lander, Wyoming this pull over offers a stunning vista of iron-laden Triassic rock as red as an Irish setter. The Pony Express Trail also ran along the canyon.

I counted 46 of them today. The closest was 500 yards off the dirt road.
From the BLM website below, I’m all confused over which herd these are from as they were between two herd management areas. One herd is maintained at between 180 and 375 horses (the Cedar Mountains), the other at 70 to 120 (the Onaqui Mts). We were smack in the middle of these two ranges.
