Cleaning up my photo archive, I stumbled upon this picture, which I thought would be very appropriate for todays challenge.
The bronze sculpture is entitled 'The bicyclers' and made by Oswald Wenckebach in 1960.
When I look at the statue, especially from this point of view, I feel like having caught a couple in love during a secret date.
Like Delft needs Blue

glukorizon posted a photo:

The city of Delft is famous for its blue china. This glass sculpture in the city centre refers to this colour of blue. It seems the only colour around on this grey day.

The sculpture is located closely to the maket square, where the tower of the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) arises, 108 meters high, dating from 1496.

The sculpture dates from 1998 and was designed by Marcel Smink. It has the shape of a heart, symbolizing the vivid activity around. Besides the reference to the Delft Blue tableware, the technical look refers to the Technical University, and its transpareny to the stained glass of the many historic churches.

This sculpture of artist Wim T. Schippers (1942) is placed in the garden of the New Church in Delft, and based on the famous painting The Milkmaid by Johannes Vermeer (1632 - 1675). This painter lived and worked all his life in Delft, but none of his paintings is still in Delft. Therefore, this sculpture was a gift from the Vermeer Association to the city of Delft in 1975, 300 years after the death of Vermeer.

Relief in the Archeological Museum of Piraeus. It represents the hero Herakles mounting a four-horse chariot (quadriga) and holding Iole, whom he has abducted. In front of the chariot a youth in the role of nymphagogos (escort of the bride).

This sculptured plaque was found, among others, in the harbour of Piraeus in the winter of 1930-31. They were part of the cargo of a wrecked ship, the destination of which had been Italy. All plaques come from the same Attic workshop and were executed around the middle of the second century AD. The plaques were intended for decoration of various buildings in Rome.

We were in Maastricht this weekend with some friends. Maastricht is the capital of the province of Limburg and is split into two parts by the river Maas. The name is derived from the former Roman name, Mosae Trajectum, which means crossing of the Maas. The Romans founded the city around 50 B.C. The centre is located on the West border, the Eastern part is called Wijck, whch is derived from the Latin word vicus (village or homestead).

Both parts of the city have their own ambiance. This statue, created by Frans Carlier in 1985, shows the 'typical' citizen of Wijck (a Wiekeneer in the local dialect), who walks through the streets holding his hat with both hands.
Perfect for the challenge, this stack of slices.

I was on my way back from the grocery when I passed a fence near some apartment blocks and noted many little metal figurines on top of it. I turned my bike to go back to see what it was: a whole series of animals, in many shapes and sizes. So cute. These three looked to me like a little mouse family.
I couldn't find any information about the figurines, not there and not on the internet. My guess is that these have been created as part of some social project in that district; somehow, the shapes look made by children, modeled in clay, and then duplicated in metal by an artist.

The table is filled with bread in a basket, more bread next to it, a milk bowl and some cloths. It is a detail of a sculpture of artist Wim T. Schippers (1942), placed in the garden of the New Church in Delft, and based on the famous painting The Milkmaid by Johannes Vermeer (1632 - 1675). This painter lived and worked all his life in Delft, but none of his paintings is still in Delft. Therefore, this sculpture was a gift from the Vermeer Association to the city of Delft in 1975, 300 years after the death of Vermeer.

This statue of a woman with in her hand a torch of freedom remembers us to all the brave men and women who died for our freedom.
This is commemorated every year at May 4, when the people of Delft put their flowers here during a short but impressive ceremony. But even today, many flowers grow around the statue to keep the memory alive.

I attended a photography walk through the city of Gouda today. Opposite to the former fire house is this statue of a fire man (by Sonja Meijer). He points the hose to the letters 'BRANDWEER', meaning 'fire brigade'. The firehouse has been used for 400 years until 2002; now the renovated building is used for housing.
He points the hose to the letters 'BRANDWEER', meaning 'fire brigade'. The firehouse has been used for 400 years until 2002; now the renovated building is used for housing.

Despite the rain, the smell of freshly cut grass was still in the air this morning. The lawn mower turned cricles around the statue, and made linear patterns on the rest of the lawn.
I have no idea where the statue comes from or what it represents. There was no sign to explain or to tell who the artist is. I could not find any information on the internet as well.

Today, my aunt celebrated that she has been a sister for 75 years in the congregation of the Zusters van Liefde van Onze Lieve Vrouw, Moeder van Barmhartigheid (Sisters of Love and Charity). We were invited for a nice dinner and met a lot of relatives, a kind of family reunion. Very pleasant.

As a small child, I was intimidated by her appearance when she came to visit us in her habit with a very deep hood over her head. It seemed to me that she was stuck in this outfit forever; after 75 year figuratively true, I think.
Nowadays, the habits are a relic from the past, at least for her congregation. Only this statue near the retirement home for sisters, where she currently lives, shows how it used to be. The three steel sisters, by artist Judith Kuijpers, represent the sisters who started the congregation in 1832 and the three pillars of their work: education, care and mission work. The heads contain small monitors, showing old photos about the history of the congregation.
