Hamburg, Blankenese, this formerly Fishing Village along the Elbe River in the Western Part of Hamburg has a long History, the Name “Blankenese” comes from the Low German “Blanc Ness”, meaning White Promontory in the Elbe River.

The stunning Views from the River-facing Stairs-Quarter of Blankenese have resulted in highly desirable Properties & expensive Real Estate Prices owned in the Past by Sea-Captains & Helmsman, although the Ship Owners resided on the “Elbchausse” Country Road along the River, starting at the Hamburg Harbour Area & ending in Blankenese.
The Domiciles at the Pedestrian-only Labyrinth of the 58 Stairs at the up to over 70 m high Hillside, with a total of 4864 Steps, are owned today by anyone who can afford it, not actually only Moneywise, …more because you need the Guts to carry everything, Food, Beverage, Garbage, Furniture, Babies, older People etc. etc. by Hand up or down, which is especially tough in Wintertime or by Rain.

Hamburg, St. Michaelis Church under general Restoration In-& Outside again with “heavenly” Supervision from the Pulpit.

St. Michaelis, usually called “The Michel”, is one of Hamburg’s five Main Protestant Churches & one the City’s Landmarks, dedicated to the Archangel Michael. The large Bronze Statue above the Portal of the Church displays the Archangel conquering the Devil.

The 132m-high Baroque Spire covered with Copper is a prominent Feature of Hamburg’s Skyline & has always been a Landfall Mark for Ships sailing up the River Elbe towards the Hanseatic City of Hamburg.

The present Church Building is the Third one at this Site, the First one was built from 1647 to 1669, in 1687, the “Michel” became the Fifth Main Church & destroyed on March 10., 1750 by a Lightning Strike.

In 1786, a new Construction was completed, following the Design of Johann Leonhard Prey & Ernst Georg Sonnin, it is the Church as it’s known till today & reconstructed twice in the 20th ´Century, once after caught Fire in 1906 during Construction Work &
after the Bombings of 1944 - 1945.

Since 1983, Renovation is ongoing, first the Spire & then the Roof.
Offering 2500 Seats, the Michel is the largest Church in Hamburg. The Spire, which offers an excellent View over the City & due to his Location also over the Harbour, you can climb-up the Stairs or use a Lift.
