Taken for the group Macromondays. The theme this week is ‘Childishness – the child within’

I love simple mechanical toys and I think it began with a little guy called Muffin the Mule. If you stood Muffin at the top of a slope he would walk down to the bottom unaided by anything but gravity. Alas he has disappeared with my childhood but I have never lost my fascination for these toys so, the child within me went out and bought this wind-up ladybird (this is because I like to photograph ladybirds). I wish I could show you how cute he looks as he waddles across the table.

I believe that this ladybird is a herbivore and feeds on mildewed leaves.

I happened upon him/her (there have to be boy ladybirds, don't there?) on this viburnum leaf today.

sigma 105mm macro lens + 12, 20 &36mm extension tubes in natural light.

I had to put this together from two 'hatchings' several weeks apart because once it's time for the ladybird to emerge it all happens in minutes.
I followed the first larva and pupa for days and missed stage three. This time I was watching three pupae so I had a little warning..........and still missed it.
It takes a few hours for their spots to develop.

I was trying to take my Strobist Sundays shot this afternoon and having no luck or inspiration. The theme this week is 'Bokeh'. Now I thought that would be easy but the subject was so wide and bokeh is something a lot of us achieve all the time so I couldn't think of anything to snap.

Then this little guy, who was obviously sleeping in one of my dusty corners, woke up and offered to help and for the first time ever I HAD ALL MY LIGHTS SET UP AND READY. Sorry, I had to shout that as it was a first. ;o))

I was pleased to see him as nobody ever comes into the back bedroom for fear they will be photographed. This chap made a big mistake.

Strobist info:
subject sitting on a Nikon 50mm lens on a black background ( I already had the background from my failed shots and the lens was on the same table)
SB900 @ 1/64 to right of camera
SB600 @ 1/16 and with diffuser to left of camera

Not the best strobist shot but I had to be quick so that my subject could find a dark place and go back to sleep.
