The Chautauqua Belle is one of only five operating authentic passenger sternwheel steamboats left in all of North America.

The steamer Chautauqua Belle is an authentic Mississippi River-style sternwheel steamboat owned and operated by U.S. Steam Lines Ltd, operating on Chautauqua Lake in Western New York. Originally financed and built by Captain James Webster, the vessel was constructed on site in Mayville, New York, between 1974 and 1976. The Chautauqua Belle was launched in 1976 as part of Chautauqua County's celebration of the United States Bicentennial.

The Chautauqua Belle is a total of 98 feet long and 22 feet wide. She weighs 70 tons fully loaded. She has a 100 horsepower Scotch steam boiler aboard which supplies steam at 210 pounds per square inch to the two 20 hp steam engines which turn her paddlewheel. She has a 60 HP Uniflow marine steam engine manufactured by Skinner Engine Company which is attached via a belt drive to a 30KW generator to provide her electricity needs. Her top speed is 7 miles per hour. The engines were built for the Chautauqua Belle by Harry Mc Bride in 1975. She has a mechanical steering system with cable operation of two rudders mounted on the stern ahead of her paddlewheel.

Finally one of my wishes came through I got to see the waterspout with my own eyes and very close! It was a dramatic moment for us that we enjoyed a lot! This was from the Sunday before. As I was in the middle of a portrait session I noticed to the right side there was a funnel cloud forming and before my eyes it touched the water and was going full force for about 5 minutes or so.

We have had some interesting weather around here this year from very wet spring to hot and dry summer and now we started getting some rain on and off. Also the Lake Erie water temperature is at all time high record of 82 degrees!!! So nice and so balmy.

I haven't had much time uploading anything to Flickr but I will try my best to be more regular with my uploads. Take care everyone!

Yeah we are pretty much frozen up here. It's been a rather cold winter around here. What you see here is our Lake Erie pretty frozen looking towards Canada. Some smoke/steam rising on right side of the horizon probably on the Canadian shore unless it's one of the freighters trying to navigate through the ice as it happened last week. They had to get the ice cutter out.

The other night was one of the coldest we had in a while. It got down to -16F (-26.6C) by my parents house which is a few miles south of the lake. It got to -5F (-20C) here in the city on the lake shore. I know it was pretty cold but thank God it wasn't as cold as it was in Northern New York state where it got down to -40F/C... I can't even imagine that kind of cold.

I know I haven't uploaded nearly in a month and this is my first upload of 2011! Life is good but very busy these days. It's the tax time and all the year end reporting ... :(

Have a nice week everyone!

Heavy Lake Effect Snow Blizzard Night Driving in Erie Pennsylvania
Well after the colorful fall images logically a dramatic black and white image follows... right? This is it. It's been pretty stormy around here lately. This is the image of a highway during near blizzard conditions with the heavy snow. Actually it was much more intense a bit before I started to photograph... it was basically white out where you couldn't really see anything. But I thought this would be a little more interesting. I love light from the headlights of those vehicles.

It's a mess around here. Some hardest hit areas around where we live got over 35 inches (89 cm) of snow since Sunday! Driving was pretty tricky for a while but it just wont quit snowing around here. It supposed to get worse this coming weekend and early next week.

I am testing out some new camera equipment! I got myself a Nikon D90 with a sweet 18-50mm f/2.8 Sigma lens. I am pretty happy so far. The performance is amazing with this new gear. So this was sort of a test shot of a high ISO 3200. I didn't remove any noise since I liked the feel it added to this black and white RAW image. This is a pretty simple image.

One gorgeous sunny day in Erie Pennsylvania during our wonderful fall season. This is a very simple RAW shot of some golden scenery. We had one of the best fall color on record... Perhaps I don't remember such a colorful fall as we had this year. I really love fall and I wished it never ended but it's snowing now outside and very cold and windy. I'll see if I can find something half decent to capture. Obviously I have been very busy lately but wanted to upload something real quick. So here you go! Something nice and simple.

Have a wonderful week everyone!

This is the most dramatic Lake Erie sunset I have ever witnessed. The colors were just unbelievable! This was captured in Presque Isle State Park in Erie Pennsylvania.

It was an unbelievable moment. The sun hid behind the approaching thunderstorm cloud from Canada and all the hopes of a sunset vanished most people left but I stayed and to my surprise the whole horizon exploded with insane colors. The colors were more intense than what you see here... This is virtually untouched single RAW image. I really love these type of sunsets. We get some of the world's most amazing sunsets a lot around here and I wish I lived right on the lake to witness all the unique and phenomenal sunsets that we experience here.
This is the view from the top of the bridge when you do some seriously risky and dangerous trespassing... but such a worthy view that I will never forget. This is the second time climbed this bridge. I almost had my foot caught between the timber on the bridge. Good memories though. I still can't believe my wife let me sneak up there she regretted later though. I get the feel this might have been the last time... :(

Letchworth State Park is New York state park located 35 miles (56 km) southwest of Rochester and 60 miles (95 km) southeast of Buffalo in Livingston and Wyoming Counties. The park is roughly 17 miles (24 km) long,[2] covering 14,350 acres (58 km2) of land along the Genesee River.[2] Within the park there are three large waterfalls on the river and perhaps as many as fifty waterfalls found on tributaries that flow into it; the gorge formed by the river, with rock walls rising up to 550 feet (170 m) in places and which narrow to 400 feet (120 m) across above the middle of the three falls, prompted the area's reputation as the "Grand Canyon of the East".

The Upper Falls of the Genesee River is one of three major waterfalls on the Genesee River in Letchworth State Park in Western New York. What really makes this 40ft waterfall quite scenic is the rustic-looking bridge serving as a backdrop.

The Erie Railroad Company built a wooden trestle bridge over the Genesee River just above the Upper Falls. Construction started on July 1, 1852 and opened August 16, 1852. At the time, it was the longest and tallest wooden bridge in the world.[8]
The bridge is 820 feet (250 m) long and 240 feet (73 m) high.[10] It is still in use today.

In 2007, Letchworth was named one of the top 100 campgrounds in the nation.

Just past Warren Pennsylvania there is this gorgeous Allegheny National Forest with Kinzua Dam and it is one amazing place in the Northwest Pennsylvania during the fall or autumn season. This colorful hill with this amazing light was glowing like gold. It was a breathtaking moment at this gorgeous place.

The Allegheny National Forest is a National Forest located in northwestern Pennsylvania. The forest covers 512,998 acres (801.6 sq mi; 2,076.0 km2) of land. Within the forest is the Kinzua Dam, which created the Allegheny Reservoir. The administrative headquarters for the Allegheny National Forest is located in Warren, Pennsylvania. The Allegheny National Forest has two ranger stations, one in Marienville, located in Forest County, and the other in Bradford, located in McKean County.
The Allegheny National Forest lies in the heart of Pennsylvania's oil and gas region. It is only 40 miles (64 km) from the site of the first commercial oil well in the United States at Titusville, Pennsylvania. In 1981, about 17% of the state's total crude oil production came from mineral rights owned by private individuals within the Forest boundary. Because of its high paraffin content, Pennsylvania crude is one of the best lubricating oils in the world.

Inspiration Point Overlook at Letchworth State Park in Western New York State
© Igor Borisenko Photography. All Rights Reserved.

We came back from our mini vacation from New York state this past weekend including Allegheny National Forest here in Western Pennsylvania. We did a lot of hiking and saw a lot of amazing scenery during the most gorgeous weekend possible for autumn.

This image was captured from the Inspiration Point Overlook at Letchworth State Park my most favorite park in this region. I had to do a lot of trespassing by standing where I should not have like edges of very tall cliffs such as this one. The image is not doing any justice to the scale of this scene. This year we had a lot of rains just before our trip resulting in very heavy flow from all the waterfalls. The mist you see rising in the center is from Middle Waterfall and the Upper behind it. It was such an amazing time. This place is only two and half hour drive from my house. I wanted to include those trees with back-lit colorful foliage on them along with that hidden sun. I like that effect here. Typically it's not something I would do but I went out of my way to have a more original composition.

At Inspiration Point visitors are greeted with a spectacular vista that overlooks Letchworth Gorge and the mighty Genesee River. Upstream you will see the 107 foot tall Middle Falls, and even further out the Upper Falls and the train trestle spanning above it.

Savannah is gorgeous! Live oaks with Spanish moss look amazing all over the city. It is such an amazing city. It's charming southern gem. Me and my wife enjoyed staying in Savannah back in 2009 for our honeymoon part I and part II was in Niagara Falls, Ontario another wonderful place. Good memories from these romantic spots.

NO it DID NOT SNOW in Savannah! I know it looks like snow. I think Savannah would look amazing with some snowfall. This was a simple RAW shot and it looked pretty bland in color so I decided to tweak some settings in Lightroom to achieve my pseudo infrared effect look and I think it came out looking pretty good. My camera does not handle IR too well and I don't feel like investing in a dedicated IR camera so I have to do this from time to time. I love Adobe Lightroom it works great for me.

Well... it's that time again! My favorite and colorful season that only lasts about a month :( It's becoming more and more colorful around here quickly. I haven't been exploring much yet and waiting for the weather to improve. I can't wait to visit some amazing places this fall season. Stay tuned for some spectacular scenery.

This is an old image and I am hoping to return to this place soon. I have captured this particular shot at the Letchworth State Park in New York State that is very close to us. I love this gorgeous place a lot. This was a simple RAW shot that was lightly adjusted in Adobe Lightroom to closely resemble the actual scene.

Bicentennial Tower View - Erie, Pennsylvania

This is the classic panoramic view of Erie, Pennsylvania from our Bicentennial Tower on the lakeshore overlooking the downtown on the clearest, crispest day possible with the lowest humidity in the atmosphere. Basically the best shot possible at this location. I have been waiting for this moment for a while.

The Bicentennial Tower is an observation tower located in Erie, Pennsylvania and features panoramic views of Lake Erie, Presque Isle State Park, and downtown Erie. The tower was built to signify the city's bicentennial year in 1996. It is 187 feet (57 m) tall and has 2 observation decks. [3] It's located at the end of State Street on Dobbins Landing.

Erie (pronounced /ˈɪəri/) is an industrial city on the shore of Lake Erie in the northwestern corner of the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. Named for the lake and the Native American tribe that resided along its southern shore, Erie is the state's fourth largest city (after Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Allentown), with a population of 104,000.[2] Erie's Metropolitan Area consists of approximately 280,000 residents and an Urbanized Area population of approximately 195,000. The city is the seat of government for Erie County.

Erie is in proximity to Cleveland, Ohio; Buffalo, New York; and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Once teeming with heavy industry, Erie's heavy manufacturing sector now consists mainly of plastics and locomotive building. Known for its lake effect snow, Erie is in the heart of the rust belt and has begun to focus on tourism as a driving force in its economy. More than four million people each year visit Presque Isle State Park,[3] for water recreation, and a new casino named for the state park is growing in popularity.

Erie is known as the Flagship City because of the presence of Oliver Hazard Perry's flagship Niagara.[4] The city has also been called the Gem City because of the "sparkling" lake.[4] Erie won the All-America City Award in 1972.

Erie Pennsylvania Skyline from Bicentennial Tower - Birds eye view

This is the image of Tall Ships Erie festival during the Erie Heritage Weekend. Here you see two ships the Bounty and Roald Amudsen. The one in the foreground is the Bounty and it's one of my favorites. It was an amazing weekend. As I said before I absolutely love these type of majestic tall ships.

Bounty
Home Port: Greenport, Long Island, NY
Sparred Length: 180’
Rig Height: 115’
Sail Area: 10,000 square feet

Owned by the British Admiralty, HMS Bounty was a merchant ship recommissioned in 1787 to collect sapling breadfruit trees for plantations in the West Indies. The infamous mutiny was told in the novel Mutiny on the Bounty by Charles Nordhoff and James Norman Hall and in movies.

The new Bounty was built in 1960 in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada, for MGM Studios “Mutiny on the Bounty” starring Marlon Brando. The ship’s original drawings, still on the file in the British Admiralty, were consulted during construction.

The HMS Bounty Organization, LLC is dedicated to keeping the ship sailing and using her as a vehicle for teaching the nearly lost arts of square rigged sailing and seamanship.

Roald Amudsen
Home Port: Eckernforde, Germany
Sparred Height: 165’
Rig Height: 105’
Sail Area: 9,150 square feet
Roald Amundsen offers sail training for beginners as well as young and old sailors. She operates year-round and sails the North Sea, Baltic Sea and the English Channel this summer. In winter, she usually travels to the Canary Islands sailing the challenging Bay of Biscay and the Mediterranean Sea.

Initially designed as a deep sea fishing lugger, the hull was built in 1952 for service to the military fleet of the former East Germany. The ship went out of service when the Berlin wall came down in 1989. A group of sailing enthusiasts discovered her in 1992, converted and rigged her as a traditional brig designated for sail training.

This is the skyline of Lower Manhattan New York City on a gorgeous summer night. This was captured from the Jersey City overlooking Hudson River. This a panorama from many shots stitched with Adobe CS5. What a gorgeous place but very sad to see without those amazing World Trade Towers there.

Today is the day we remember the tragedy that was inflected by some heartless blood-thirsty radicals. It's pretty sad knowing that such "humans" exist on this planet. We will never forget 9/11 and those that defended our freedom. God bless the families that were directly affected by this insane brutality.

This is a simple image of a Presque Isle State Park Lighthouse in Erie Pennsylvania during the blue hour.

In 1870, plans were begun for a lighthouse on the north shore of the Presque Isle Peninsula that would replace the Erie Land Lighthouse on the mainland. This new light would be several miles nearer the lake, and being located directly on the peninsula, would better mark that navigational hazard. Construction began in September of 1872, and the light from atop the forty-foot tower attached to the keeper’s dwelling was first exhibited on July 12, 1873. The hazards of navigating Lake Erie were evidenced by the loss of a scow carrying 6,000 bricks for the construction of the lighthouse.

The lighthouse tower was built of bricks, five courses thick, in order to withstand the fierce storms and buffeting winds that blow off the lake. Though square on the outside, inside the tower is circular and supports a spiral staircase, forged in Pittsburgh and barged to Erie. The brick keeper’s dwelling originally had an oil room, bedroom, dining room, kitchen, and summer kitchen on the main floor, and three bedrooms and a drying room on the second floor. Beneath the dwelling were located a cistern and a cellar. The cost for the lighthouse was $15,000.
