The day after President Obama and his wife paid a visit to his ancestral home and called into the local for a pint - Ollie Hayes pub in Moneygall, Co. Offaly.

The craic agus ceol supplied by Tipp Off the traditional group that play in Ollies seen here with Ollie (pub landlord) and some delighted visitors who dropped by to soak up the day after buzz, (including yours truly)

Guinness - now owned by Diageo should be paying Brand Ireland for all the free marketing and promotion it is getting. Instead what does the company do? Announce lay-offs the day after President Obama leaves at the end of the two highly publicised events - both featuring Guinness!

According to the Irish Independent - "An estimated €23m worth of free global publicity for one of Ireland's most iconic brands " - I say Charge Diageo for the marketing opportunity!

There is a lesson here. I am fed up of institutions making fools of us! Time to do something about it.

Meet Mary the lady who served President Obama when he chose a gift for his mother-in-law.

It seems the gift he chose - shamrock patterned mugs in a presentation style hat box would not fit into the largest bag in the shop even with Presidential help. So the secret service just stepped in and took the box!

Why do they call them 'secret service' when they are in fact so obvious as to call total attention to themselves?

The poor woman was exhausted though delighted the shop was doing a roaring trade.

Moneygall - A village in waiting

In a little over a months time this roadway village will be transformed and there will hardly be standing room on the paths or an empty window to be seen.

A visitor is due to fly in toward the end of May to say Hello and see the place where one of his ancestors came from. That visitor is Barack Obama - President of the US.

Moneygall (Irish: Muine Gall, meaning "foreigners' thicket") in County Offaly Ireland - aptly named as they expect an influx of visitors from the States this year. The first group will be easily spotted in a village like this, they will be wearing dark glasses and all will be wearing hearing pieces ;-)

The N7 Dublin to Limerick road bisects the village expect delays and diversions on the day.

Hayes Pub on the left has the distinction of being the pub where 'There's no one as Irish as Barack O'bama' was first played. Obama had previously remarked, "There's a little village in Ireland where my great-great-great grandfather came from and I'm looking forward to going there and having a pint,"

Well that day is coming :-)
