One of my oldest friends lives out by Whitehaven, so she took us on a little tour of here and St Bees. The harbour looked so still and pretty even though that Easterly wind was rushing through me.

Just a little bit of HDR because it's been a while. I suspect I would still prefer the single exposure, but it's fun to experiment!

Brancaster Sunrise Sails

My dad and I headed out at 4am to catch the sunrise at Brancaster on the Norfolk coast. The sky wasn't quite as epic as it could have been but this wonderful, red boat sailing past more than made up for that.

Here is the normal exposure. I can't work out which one I prefer because for the first time that day the sun peeped out and hit the lighthouse and I love that. I guess they're both pretty different shots... I like the optimistic feel of this one, with the sun encroaching on the rocks, lifting up the entire scene. Every minute or so the lighthouse would emit an eerie bell toll which rung out along the coastline. Very atmospheric.

Always searching for the light in the dark.

Arrived in North Wales in Sunday afternoon, and the rain was coming in sideways. I've spent many a summer in that part of the world and know that the coast tends to operate on a different weather system, so out we headed to catch one heck of a blinding sunset at Dinas Dinlle.

Forgot my Lee Filters so had to use my x64 ND Grad.

I'm not sure what I love so much about this photo that's been languishing in my "Yeah, whatever" image folder for the best part of a year. Maybe it's the composition, or the negative space, or merely the fact that it reminds me of hiking through the hills of Abel Tasman National Park with some random German fellow named Felix.

Either way, I'm glad it's made it onto Flickr.

Dusky Dolphins at Play

I swam with these dolphins off the coast of Kaikoura in New Zealand. The pod consists of about 500 dolphins with little else to do but play, and occasionally harass the local Sperm Whale (to the point that they've learned to hold their breath for longer under water).

So much in the back catalogue! Great to edit tonight whilst Rach wraps present and air drums to Christmas songs (she's allowed as she is actually a drummer). Absolutely love Friday night!

Tomorrow we take a trip to Cannock to get a Christmas tree and have a nice long winter walk!
