I miss Amish country. I also miss the excitement I once felt as a child in anticipation for Christmas.

When my parents were together, we'd head over to the Lancaster area every Christmas — load up our van with presents and luggage and drive for 11 hours to where I grew up. The area somehow still held remamants of what made me childlike and full of joy.

My parents are divorced now. My dad remarried with new young children of his own. My mom is now in an assisted living facility. This year we stayed home with our own family; 800 miles away (and me, heavy with guilt and shame and sadness that I didn't make it out there, couldn't get out there, and partly didn't want to get out there)

What I was able to hold onto in hope and joy as a youth is withering in the fog of aging and watching others age.

The Hall of Justice (or just a museum)

This is, in fact, the Cincinnati Museum Center. An art deco masterpiece built in 1933 as the main train terminal for the city, called Union Terminal. It was also the model and basis for the Hall of Justice in the "Super Friends" cartoons. Today it houses the Children's Museum, the Museum of History and Science, Cincinnati History Museum. an Omnimax theatre as well as an actual train station (though, obviously, not nearly as dominate as in it's heyday). The interior/entry area is full of vibrant and stunning mosaic murals. It's a must visit.
