Another first for me this last fortnight. The arrival of a Black Redstart and then this female Brambling. This female looks very similar to the Chaffinch.

I was so pleased that I had a new visitor that I took many shots, not the best poses, but I am grateful that I got any at all. It is seldom seen in the UK.

Captured in the front garden of my home in Wiltshire UK on 28th March. The area around me is countryfied. I have never seen one of these before, I think it is a fledgling and have an idea what it might belong to the Thrush family... Over to you, if you can identify it please do. When this was taken , the bird was roughly the size of a large robin. It has now been confirmed as a first year male Black Redstart.

Avebury Manor has had its themed rooms decorated in the fashion of the time. Very interesting. For example the tree above in the Billiard Room is decorated by handmade hangings of Cinnamon sticks and dried fruit with ribands too. A most amazing aroma.

James Bond" />

A visit to Beaulieu started with disappointment as the James Bond section was closed. The disappointment was short lived when we saw that the cars were being used around the Manor for advertising "Fifty Years of 007 movies!" I was so lucky to be in the right place at the right time. As the pro photographer was setting the scene I was right behind him and doing my thing. He even let me photograph the car interior of the DB5 (first seen in Goldfinger) on the right, hence the window is open! The latest is on the left. Apparently they smashed 14 Aston Martins too make the film "Quantum of Solace"

I was wondering whether to upload a bird or a car next. Then I thought why not share a Cappuccinop with you. I took this shot at The Avebury Manor Tearoom not long after we opened at the end of April.

We have just been voted the Best Tearoom in the National Trust. We are very proud of winning the award, there was strong competition. You may be wondering why I did not photograph a cup of tea.... The reason for this is that I could write Avebury with the coffee in the foam of the cappuccino, simple as that.

Now then car or bird next mmmm

A permanent, multi award-winning 1930s garage has been created within the Museum, complete down to the last nut and bolt and rusty drainpipe. Whilst the building is a complete fabrication, everything in it - all the fixtures, fittings, tools and ephemera - are genuine artefacts collected over a period of 25 years.

Worth viewing huge !

Victory Parade of the Great Britain Olympians. Monday 10th September 2012 1/4

Monday 10th September 2012 1/4" />

I had an appointment in London, which I rearranged till after the Olympics, as I thought transport and movement would be severely restricted.
I rearranged the date for the 10th... then the government decided to honour our Olympians with a victory parade.
My wife and I decided to keep my appointment and watch the parade afterwards which was co- incidentally at the starting point of the procession. (The Mansion House). The trains were excellent, underground included, seats available for every one. The roads were totally free of vehicles. As my appointment finished, we walked down the street to this point. The lunch time crowds and visitors like us had a great time; people were climbing on top of the stree lights and phone boxes to get a better view. The office windows were full of the workers obtaining grander views. I had my 300mm lens and enough space on the pavement to get many shots, here are the first four. The stars are there, do you recognise any more?

Fireworks at midnight. I had heard and was ready with camera mounted on tripod and took these from the room balcony. If I had known they would have lasted for 15 minutes and that they would have been so spectacular. I would have gone elsewere. This view point does not do them justice. I used the camera setting "Bulb" and exposures between 5 and 30 seconds.
