A Day at the Beach (for tiny people)

Jim | jld3 photography posted a video:

Ever since my first attempt at fake tilt shift, I have found the effect intriguing.

Around 4,000 photos were shot to make this short movie. All using the D700 with a couple different lenses/settings/etc. Some of the higher scenes were shot through dirty windows and aren't clear as they could be. Photos were processed/batch-edited using Capture NX 2, converting to image sequences using Quicktime Pro, and post-processed using Vegas Movie Studio.

One of the things that appeals to me most about FTS, is how much content is covered, and how you can see things you wouldn't notice if you look closely. For example, do you see:
1. the group of six young ladies sunbathing/applying sunscreen?
2. the granddad take off his blue shirt and hand over so he can sit in the beach with the grandkid?
3. the woman feeding the seagulls with child in hand until the older kid comes over?
4. the group dismantling their canopy?
The list goes on...

(For best effect, make sure HD is on, and click the full-screen button at the lower right.)

I had to edit this down a bit to conform to flickr's 90 sec. limit - you can see the full version here if interested.
Jim's Pier - South Padre Island TX - Vintage

Jim | jld3 photography posted a photo:

My flickr time has been almost nil the last few weeks. I'll spare you the details, but essentially work got out-of-control busy there all of a sudden (mostly a good thing), and then I went on the annual family trip to South Padre Island, TX. Now that I'm back, I'm still trying to catch up and find myself almost overwhelmed trying to get through everyone's streams. I don't have a ton of contacts I follow - maybe 60 or 70? But try going through 3-10 pics per contact - while giving each shot justice - and you're talking a lot of time. Not sure I'll be able to keep up the way I used to with what might be ahead of me work-related, but I'll try. (I think I'm mostly caught up, but have some contacts to go...)

I don't really do textures, but since our family has been going down here since the 70's, I thought I'd try and give this a first-annual look to it. Don't suspect anyone will fall in love with this as it's mostly a personal/sentimental pic, but I thought it'd make a good vehicle for giving you all an update. I'll try to get some more interesting vacation pics up along the way...

Try it Large

I went on our annual SPI trip this year with no intention of doing another fake tilt shift timelapse movie like I did last year, but towards the end of the trip looked out and saw a beach wedding taking place and decided to fire off some shots. Unfortunately the wedding was already over and people were dispersing, but you can still see the bride and groom and bridesmaids etc. walking about. So more of an ad hoc project than one planned. Shot through dirty windows so not as clear as I'd like, but still interesting elements if you look for them.

Sometimes, in trying times, it’s the simple colorful shots that resonate most with me.

This one’s for Lee – and anyone else out there looking for a little happy color to brighten their day!

Shot notes:
We returned from our annual trip to South Padre recently, and have just gone through all the pics. Not sure which to share, so starting with something simple. Hopefully I can find another one or two to share soon. Also trying to wrap up a little timelapse project I've been working on...if I can only get the damn codecs figured out!
