Arthur Fleischmann museum in Bratislava

Arthur Fleischmann (b. 1896, Bratislava; d. 2 March 1990, Tenerife) was a Slovak-born, London-based sculptor, who pioneered the use of Perspex in sculpture. In his early life, he was at the centre of the Merioola Group in Australia, before settling in London.

In 2001, the Arthur Fleischmann Foundation was formed. Working with the Mestske Muzeum and the City of Bratislava Council, the Foundation helped set up a permanent museum in the house at 6 Biela Ulice, Bratislava where Arthur Fleischmann grew up.

He is also commemorated with a plaque at his London home, 92 Carlton Hill, Westminster. The plaque was unveiled on 28 July 1998 by the Austrian and Slovakian ambassadors, together with the Deputy Lord Mayor of Westminster, Joy Fleischmann, and former Arts Minister, Lord Gowrie

The Lipizzan or Lipizzaner is a breed of horse closely associated with the Spanish Riding School of Vienna, Austria, where the finest representatives demonstrate the haute école or "high school" movements of classical dressage, including the highly controlled, stylized jumps and other movements known as the "airs above the ground." The Lipizzan breed dates back to the 16th century, when it was developed with the support of the Habsburg nobility.

In the capriole (meaning leap of a goat), the horse jumps from a raised position of the forehand straight up into the air, kicks out with the hind legs, and lands more or less on all four legs at the same time. It requires an enormously powerful horse to perform correctly, and is considered the most difficult of all the airs above the ground.

Michael's Gate is the only city gate that has been preserved of the medieval fortifications and ranks among the oldest town buildings. Built about the year 1300, its present shape is the result of baroque reconstructions in 1758, when the statue of St. Michael and the Dragon was placed on its top. The tower houses the Exhibition of Weapons of Bratislava City Museum.

Lake Neusiedl is the second largest Endorheic lake in Central Europe, straddling the Austrian–Hungarian border. The lake covers 315 km², of which 240 km² is on the Austrian side and 75 km² on the Hungarian side. The lake's drainage basin has an area of about 1,120 km². From north to south, the lake is about 36 km long, and it is between 6 km and 12 km wide from east to west. On average, the lake's surface is 115.45 m above the Adriatic Sea and the lake is no more than 1.8 m deep.

National Stud Farm Topoľčianky, a state owned company, is one of the most important breeding and crossbreeding centres for warm-blood horses in Europe. The Stud Farm was founded in 1921. It is unique because it is the only centre in the whole of Europe which specializes in four-horses breeding, which are Arabs, Lipizzans, Huculs and sporting horses. There are 500 horses in the herd. One part of the National Stud Farm is located in the grounds of the Famous Topoľčianky Castle which was a summer residence of Tomas G.Masaryk, the first President of the Czechoslovak Republic. There is also a Museum of Horses with a large number of interesting exhibits. There is an area of about 1000 ha with breeding yards and buildings, which were gradually added in the years 1921-1930.

The National Stud Farm Topoľčianky is well known also abroad mostly by its presentation of Lipizzan horses with Quadrilla and Classical Riding School. They have participated for example in the International Agriculture Trade Fair „ Grüne Woche“ in Berlin or in Mannheim with the historical megaquadrilla, which was written in the Guiness Book (of world records). Horses from Topoľčianky are very successful in all equestrian disciplines such as dressage, show jumping, distance riding, driving and vaulting. In the grounds of the National Stud Farm Topoľčianky it is also possible to see a lot of sporting events of these equestrian disciplines during the whole year. There is a wide choice of horses of the above mentioned breeds available for sale during the whole year at various stages of professional training.

In 1529 the church was destroyed with the entire village by the Turks. At that time nothing remained from the church. When the count Esterházy came into the possession of the place, the church was rebuilt in 1668. Also a Franciscan monastery was built here. Both fell in 1683 again the Turks to the victim.

The church, togheter with the Franciscan monastery was rebuilt in 1695 as a Foundation of Prince Paul Esterhazy by Francesco Martinelli. In 1990, the church was elevated by Pope John Paul II to the Minor Basilica.
