This is the farmhouse for the world famous "Shack of Corn." This photo is from 2008. We learned in 2011, that the family who owned this farm sold it to a Japanese Corporation. As we didn't go to Denver (NY) this summer (2012) I have no idea if this is still a working farm (and where we'll buy our corn if it isn't).

**This was before I starting shooting RAW. No idea why the color balance is so off in this photo but this was the best I could do without making it either blue or magenta.

This Golden Retriever (who appeared to be young) was full of energy. If not crazily bounding in the waves she was digging holes and rolling in the sand. Always had a "smile" on her face.

Dowitcher (Best Guess)

Shorebird seen wading in the Bolsa Chica Wetlands Nature Conservancy. My best guess is this is a juvenile short billed dowitcher, but it could possibly be a non-breeding adult long billed dowitcher, godwit, or pectoral sandpiper. All four species are common to this area (although the pectoral sandpiper is rarely sighted, making it the least likely candidate; the other species are abundant in the winter). Bolsa Chica is known for amazing bird-watching opportunities (both amount and variety).
