Coire an t Sneachda and Coire an Lochan - Cairngorms National Park

freeskiing posted a photo:

www.benthorburn.com

Looks best big.

After an unprescedented snowfall last week Gav and I headed for Cairngorm on Good Friday to see what was left for us after the wind had taken its toll.

The answer was not a lot. Although the amount of snow that fell was incredible, it had been seriously affected by the wind and therefore leaving some incredible shapes in the windpacked snow but no light fluffy powder to play about it.

We hiked the ridge that links the Northern Coires of Coire an t Sneachda and Coire an Lochan in search of snow and light and this is what came of it.

No action shot but something that shows the drama of the landscape.

The best part of the day was a ptarmigan which walked no more than a meter from us. I think it was hungry and tired after a hard winter's foraging and was hedging its bets that we wouldn't bother eating it.
