when i was trying to find a cab in the old town section of seoul, korea i heard ... something.

it was in korean. the music was "tinny." in fact, the korean voice i heard was "tinny."

when i looked 'round i saw this girl "performing." although i had no idea what she was doing or saying, what i did realize was that everyone was smiling.

well done, love.

was editing a folder and saw that i hadn't uploaded this to flickr.

this is one of my favourite photos i've made whilst in a restaurant. they're just so ... i mean ... everyone ... they're just in their own worlds.

i don't do a lot of centre compositions but it really works for this photo.

the only place open at 11.00p in park city for dinner was butcher's. very nice split pea soup. bars are generally a waste of time in utah. they have devices that measure every pour. stupid.

i think my favourite -- still -- genre are the shots of people that would generally be really pissed off if they caught me. i'm sure this guy wouldn't be happy. i saw him around. he seemed the "producer or agent type." always alone. always on the phone. dunno.

but spy shots are my favourite.

between the penthouse on the fourth floor to the penthouse on the sixth to bungalow one. each ... is just ... i dunno ...

amazing.

i feel fortunate to shoot here.

they don't let a lot of people with cameras even near their property.

this is where lindsay lives and kicks out hot blonds when she hosts an "after hours thing."

my friend has been booted by her twice.

this is the kind of hotel i try to find in any metro city i visit.

fuck the minimalism.

because i think this place attracts characters.

i mean ... this is where mr. newton died. to get in ... you have to walk right where he died.

i have four close friends who work here.

they swear that they see ghosts.

perhaps mr. newton watches over photographers here.

what's interesting ... maybe not to you ... but to me ... is that ... 2 years ago i was hired by a magazine to shoot mr. newton the night he died.

i was at a cartier party.

he was supposed to be there and i was supposed to get "the shot" in b/w of mr. newton.

i arrived.

and ... i heard from a friend at the ap that another ap shooter was almost hit by newton when she was on sunset.

my friend knew how much i admired mr. newton's work and wanted me to know.

i threw up in my mouth a little.

the very day i'm supposed to have a few seconds ... maybe more than a few ...

he has a heart attack whilst driving...

crashes into the wall...

and dies.

very sad, indeed.

belushi died here too.

countless others have been rushed away in various states of consciousness.

countless hopefuls have gotten their knees dirty here for various reasons.

but i was outside...

having a smoke ...

and max from boston asked for a smoke.

of course.

and he sat on the stoop of bungalow one and smoked.

and i got one frame.

which ... i quite like.

because ... honestly ... i shoot for myself.

and i love shooting at this hotel.

you really should try lunch on the patio in the fall. or spring.

or anything ...

hmm ... guess this wasn't on dA.

i remember passing this guy on some night in napoli, italia when it was kinda cold. it was late november.

unlike how i normally make photographs of the human condition this time i used a bit of flash. because you actually see the photo being made with a leica that flash of light burned this image into my head ...

i saw it all night.

having seen many "street dogs" in and around southern italy i knew that both this dog and this human had only but each other to keep each other warm and perhaps they're their only company.

still makes me sad, actually.

whilst i'm not a huge fan of photographing the homeless i do make photos of them from time to time if they seem at least a bit dignified in the photo.

j and i were in denver. we caught an 8 o'clock flight out of las vegas. it's not a long flight but after retrieving our bags, getting a rental car and all that shit ... it was time to eat.

i don't know denver well.

and, yeah, the mp is almost always on my shoulder.

we flew in a day after some major snowstorm.

anyway ... the frame of the limo in my last deviation reminded me how i used the frame of this doorway.

and even though i shoot for fancy clients ... my first love is making photographs of moments which mean something to me.

this guy caught my eye.

i stood there drinking my water.

and he says, "you wanna photograph jesus?"

"i already have."

he looks at me quizzically ...

"what do you mean?"

"i try to see what jesus meant and is and was ... in everyone i meet, bro."

i gave them $5.00.

i pick and choose the people on the street whom i give money.

there was something that was tangible about this group of guys.

yeah, they'll spend it on something other than getting their lives together.

during the day on this particular street there was no one coming up to us and saying, "Exxxstaaahsee, Cocaine?"

you'd have to get closer to whore-church alley during the day.

at night, though, we'd get the drug dealers pretty much everywhere.

then again, you stay close to dam square and well ... there's a lot of people selling drugs.

we actually would fuck with tourists and say, "Exxxstaaahsee, Cocaine?"

we got a lot of horrible looks from people.

whatever.

we laughed.

luckily none were undercover cops!

Daily Deviationsure, you're blind. by `cweeks Does this qualify as a CWDD chris? Like or hate him, Chris Weeks is looked up to by a lot of street shooters. Outspoken with both camera and mouth, Chris deserves a lot of credit for what he does for street photography. He challenged everyone in '06 with the shootout, and has done so much more..
