The main focus was the historic Globe Trading Company on Atwater and Orleans streets in the riverfront/warehouse district area of Detroit, the RenCen was an added bonus! The Globe was innovative in steam engine design. The complex was built between 1892 and 1919. The largest building at the time was the machine shop. Henry Ford worked here from 1880 to 1882. Thomas Edison also did a stint here. It also was known as the Dry Dock Engine Works and Detroit Dry Dock Company.
