Cinelândia - Rio de Janeiro

servuloh posted a photo:

"Movieland"

Floriano square appeared during the construction of the Avenida Rio Branco (1906). Its environment is marked by a variety of building styles: Eclectic, Neoclassical, Art Nouveau and Art Deco. In order they appear in the picture: The "Amarelinho" (the yellow one); Pedro Ernesto Palace (1923 - Present City Council); the Municipal Theater (1909) in the final stages of reform, with its Golden Eagle restored and put back in place of origin; a small part of the National Museum of Fine Arts (1908), the National Library (1910) and a small part of the former Supreme Court (1909 - present Cultural Center of the Federal Court).

The idea was to make the new square a brazilian version of Times Square. Dozens of theaters, nightclubs, bars and restaurants have settled in the region and therefore became popularly known as the neighborhood. With the popularity of shopping centers, the theaters were gradually leaving the Floriano Square.
