This was one of a couple I managed on Sunday's dawn photoshoot. The decent light was as ephemeral as it was on the Saturday shoot - all of ten minutes long.

Typical of landscape photography - irrespective of the standard of your gear and suchlike, by far the most important thing is to BE THERE!

.. the 10 minutes of useable light that was Mother Nature's grudging reward for an 04.00 start and a 90 mile round trip! Nobody said that landscape photography was easy!

So there I was, standing at the loch side, all set up and freezing my goodies off waiting for something, anything, to happen. After a number of false starts, a window cleared in the all-pervasive mist and Ben Lomond coyly peeked at me over the mist. I managed to fire off a set of 3 for HDR processing, before the Ben took offence and disappeared entirely. As they used to say at the National Geographic when asked of the reasons for their success: "f/8 and be there!" Absolutely!

A day off work: dropped Her Ladyship at the nursery and then drove through the fog (praying that there was no black ice on the road) to the Trossachs. The fog ended just before Aberfoyle but the light wasn't particularly good (nothing of interest in the sky); however, as the sun dragged itself over the horizon, Ben Lomond was lit up like a beacon .. which, Gaelic speakers amongst you will note, was something of a coincidence since Ben Lomond translates as (I believe) Beacon Hill.

As always in this part of the world, the light was fleeting .. but long enough for me to get off this telephoto shot.

Yep .. frozen over again. This was my first trip out this year .. a relief from the inevitable cabin fever which sets in over the festive period .. not to mention the considerable strain which results from having to be nice to people for several days running "because it's Christmas". Fortunately, a couple of hours with Mouldy was just the ticket .. the light was crap but the mutual abuse was most entertaining!

A fairly standard viewpoint, but enhanced (I reckon, anyway) by the glow of the rising sun on Ben Lomond and the full moon setting.

My favourite spot on the loch .. known to Mouldy and me as (rather over-dramatically) "The Gap". The early morning light wasn't anywhere near as good as it promised to be (see my previous shot here) but the sky was reasonable and I reckon that's always half the battle.
