Just got back from work yesterday evening in time to dash out again to Carhead rocks below Stange Edge. The light was pretty good and there were interesting clouds too. I didn't know what to do with myself.

Stanage Edge can be seen stretching out on the the horizon.

I couldn't have asked for better light or clouds this evening. Just a shame it went all hazy closer to sunset. Wish I hadn't forgotten my telephoto as there was some great light at times on the green fields.

Arbor Low, Peak District, UK

Situated in the White Peak, Arbor Low is a monument dating back to the Neolithic and Bronze Age periods. The site consists of a massive ditch with two opposing entrances. Within stood up to 43 limestone blocks forming a circle. It must have been an even more impressive sight when these stones were standing.

A burial mound was built in the Bronze Age. You can see this is the top right of the photograph.

A larger Burial mound called Gibb Hill is situated some distance away South West of the Henge.
Another grey day today and more wet than yesterday. Had an 8 mile walk yesterday to a new location but no photos worth sharing. This was taken on Christmas Day afternoon 2011. It was incredibly windy. I was dashing to the edge, taking shots and then getting blown back. Really difficult conditions. There was some nice light around but it clouded over approaching sunset.
Taken a year ago. I remember it rained a lot that day then the skies cleared. I processed a different frame from the one at the time. This one includes Lose Hill in the distance. I've also fixed the colour balance. Not so easy with a jpg :o I thought I'd leave the original on Flickr.

We've not had much of a summer so far. So here's a shot from last July. I didn't upload at the time as I wasn't happy with the composition. I like the light though. Not really had the conditions to get it right on visits since.

I can see blue sky today. First time in a while. So fingers crossed.

We've not had much of a summer so far. So here's a shot from last July. I didn't upload at the time as I wasn't happy with the composition. I like the light though. Not really had the conditions to get it right on visits since.

I can see blue sky today. First time in a while. So fingers crossed.

I was in two minds weather to post this due to the lack of light in the dale. But i liked the sunset sky too much. I don't think I'll be attempting this type of shot at this time of day again soon though. I had meant to arrive a little earlier but had taken the wrong path from the campsite which took my parallel to the dale. More haste, less speed next time. Must double check the map.

Taken in November of last year. As I started the quick but steep climb up to Combs Edge near to sunset, the fog started to roll in obscuring my view. Initially I though "Oh no :(" but then, "Yes, yes, wow :)"

That's the only time I've visited so the area still has an air of mystery for me.

Looking from Bamford Edge, Peak District, UK.

I think Bamford Edge is my Nemesis. So, so many wasted trips where I get no light. As I left Sheffield, the light was looking great. But then, again, approaching sunset, nothing but clouds. I enjoyed watching the rolling storms, then a brief moment of light. Not quite enough to illuminate the landscape but some at least. Just after this the storm reached me. Wet and windy, I continued to photograph it but most of the shots have rains spots.

Like I say, my Nemesis. I'll stubbornly keep returning until I get my shot.
I was a little late getting to my destination as I took the wrong footpath. I thought it would be a good idea to take a photo of it just in case it was the only light of the weekend. It wasn't. But it was the best light.

You can tell it's an overcast day today; I'm processing old photos. This shot was taken 10 months ago in June 2011 after a heavy rainfall. Its show's Grindsbrook Clough (in the last post) from a different angle. Unfortunately, then, I was only shooting jpeg, not RAW. Not usually a problem except when the colour balance was wrong - which this was. So it took a bit of work. I was hoping for conditions like these this Easter.

Not a great photo but I like the light and the fact that you can see for miles.

Seen from the Southern edge of Kinder Scout. You can see the Grindsbrook Clough route up to the plateau heading up diagonally. This walking route ends in a steep, rocky scramble. I've not walked it for a good while. Recently I've preferred to head straight up North when heading from Edale as you're rewarded more immediately with great views.
At points I was up to my thighs in snow. I was following the footprints of others who had not broken through the snow. But every now and again, the weight of my rucksack and gear meant I sank deep into the snow.
