First light at The Deep this morning, what a beautiful start to the day. Cold though, well below freezing. If you look carefully that's the North Sea ferry coming into port. 0.4 secs, f/11, ISO 100 with a 2-stop nd grad (h), 2-stop nd grad (s) and a polariser

Built 1895, decommissioned 1985; the iconic Spurn Head lighthouse. It stands on an artificial rock foundation that goes down 22 feet and took nearly two years to build. This is a slightly earlier shot of my turbo edit of this sunrise, it shows the moment the light broke through but still retains a little pre-dawn colour in the sky. 0.8 secs, f/11, iso 100 with a polariser and a 2-stop nd grad (s) coming in from the right side to cool the sun but leave the lighthouse bathed in the dawn light

I suppose I was always going to go back to this one on a rainy day, I guess that's today. Great location,Oll and I did however get bitten to near death by the blood sucking vampire mossies. The Humber Bridge remains the longest single-span suspension bridge in the world that can be crossed on foot or by bicycle. Amazing pre-sunrise colour that morning...I ran like an Usain Bolt...set up like Hurricane Higgings and still didn't know where to point the camera!

Deep Purple no, Humber Bridge yes. Not my usual bag, thanks to Chris, Bri and Joe for dragging me out in the pouring rain under here where it was so black I had to use the 7D's electronic level and guess the focus point altogether. 30 secs, f/7.1 ISO 100 with no filters but a big umbrella!

One of my top 5 songs and definitely sunsets; Pantai Dalit beach, Borneo (aka The Land Below the Wind) in September 2004.

Taken as a jpeg with my trusty EOS300D and 18-55mm kit lens sat super-still using a monopod and trying hard not to think about all the bites I was getting at the time.

Remastered this cold Winter's morning to finally do this scene justice. Happy with this, the ability of LR4 to cope with noise and handle highlights is incredible.

1/100 sec, f/5.6, ISO 400. Used 'P' mode, perfect for beginners, and just look at the focus the cameras choice of exposure gave me for the silhouetted riders strolling across the darkened beach. This is exactly how I remember the scene, wonderful!

As you can probably tell, I tend to have my tripod low to the ground. This was a little different, a composition at Saltwick Bay Louis spotted to be honest but I do like the ebb and flow of the tide in this shot. 5 secs, f/11, ISO 100 with a 2-stop nd grad (s)

Looking back over the last year this one from Feb-12 deserved a refresh in LR4 as I have always liked the light. Elterwater at dawn practising with my new polariser. Five minutes of the most amazing sunlight on a Saturday morning before the clouds closed in and it started to drizzle. 0.6 sec, f/11, ISO 100 with a 2-stop nd grad and a polariser to reduce the glare on the lake and bring out the colours

Goodness knows if I've done this wonderful sunrise over Man o'War Bay justice. I think I'll need to revisit the RAW file after a week or two to reconsider. After a relatively cloudless week in Dorset I saw this one forming and rushed half way down the cliffside to grab a more interesting foreground, I needed to be quick sharp of course as this was all over in a couple of minutes. 1.3 secs, f/11, ISO 100 with a 2-stop nd (h) grad, 2-stop nd grad(s), a polariser, a single image and two table spoons of disbelief and sheer amazement
