Apple cores (Thanksgiving 2009)

I always use three kinds of apples for my pie - green Granny Smiths for tangy firmness, yellow Golden Delicious for mellow smoothness, and red Romes for melting sweetness - and when I saw the cores were chopped square like this, I couldn't resist stacking in traffic-light order. It's silly, but I had fun.
Out of order (Thanksgiving 2009)

If you ask someone to slice apples for your pie, you may wish to add that they should also peel the apples. Specifically, they should peel the apples first. Because peeling them when they're already sliced is much less efficient.

My fault for not being more specific in the request, though. And we peeled the slices together, which was nice family bonding-time for the holiday season.
