Once you have visited Easter island, your body may leave to roam freely about the Earth and see and experience other marvels of the World, but your heart will always remain in Rapa Nui.

On a technical note, the distinctive hump on jet engine no.1 reveals that this is a Boeing 707 intercontinental jet.

Also note that the landing flaps are in the down position.

This Lan Chile Boeing 707 is most probably CC-CEA (cn 18926/446), formerly D-ABUC of Lufthansa.

This picture is surprisingly personal and tells a lot about my family:

My father took the picture and focused on the airplane, probably subconsciously, since he held a managing position with an airline.

My mother is patiently posing for the picture, blissfully carrying me in her arms.

And I have only eyes for the big jetplane, anticipating the fun to fly again very long distances and marveling at the fascinating landscapes slowly moving below as my traveling adventures continue.

I guess that my parents spoiled me rotten and got me hooked on traveling the world by always taking me along on their trips. Those were the days when flying in a passenger airplane still meant leisure and spelled comfort, not fear and intimidation.

How far have we fallen from this.

Lan Chile Boeing 707 Turning on Dirt Runway on Easter Island

This is proof that at least part of the runway of Mataveri International Airport on Easter Island, Chile, was made of plain beaten soil. Note the distinct reddish-brown color of the volcanic ground on Easter Island.
