Designed by Phillip Lockwood, Brighton Borough Surveyor, and completed in 1884 the Bandstand is considered to be one of the finest examples of a Victorian bandstand still surviving in England today.

Beautiful and truly unique, Brighton Bandstand is located on Brighton's vibrant seafront. It was restored to its original specification and reopened in 2009.

The Iron Man

In Ted Hughes's modern-day fairytale - adapted by Paul Sirett for this bold new outdoor theatre production - the unexpected arrival of the Iron Man casts a shadow of fear across a small farm community. But when an enormous dragon from outer space threatens to annihilate the planet, it is the Iron Man who comes to the rescue.

Against the backdrop of celestial soundscapes, a deaf and disabled ensemble spin stories using integrated BSL and audio description while operating larger than-life puppets. The Iron Man is a colossal narrative that emerges from the shadows and takes to the air.

This performance incorporates audio description and BSL interpretation.

Commissioned by Without Walls and Greenwich + Docklands International Festival Supported by Arts Council England

The outdoor skating rink located at The Royal Pavillion is open. What a fabulous setting to skate in. Due South are running the kitchen and there is a lovely indoor seating area. It is running until the 16th January. So get down there!!!

The De La Warr Pavilion, Antony Gormley - Critical Mass

Critical Mass, one of Gormley’s best known works, is an installation made up of 60 lifesize cast iron body forms which is on display on the roof of the De La Warr Pavilion.

The artist comments: “This is the return of the lost subject to the site of Modernism. It is great to have a chance to test this piece of sculpture against the clarity of Mendelsohn and Chemayeff’s English masterpiece. I am excited to see these dark forms in the elements against the sea and in direct light. It will be like a sky burial. How these masses act in space is very important. The challenge is to make the distance intimate, internal.”
Critical Mass is made up of five casts from 12 discrete moulds of Gormley’s body, developing from a low crouching position to squatting, sitting, kneeling and standing - an ascent of man ranging through the complex syntax of the body.
