Day 144 - 040808

stinky_harriet posted a photo:

Now that the weather is getting nicer (but still not nice enough) I've been trying to walk a little longer after lunch each day. Today I decided to walk along the river, one of my favorite routes during the warmer months.

After about half an hour of walking I sat down on a bench to check my BG - 63. I ate a couple of glucose tabs and a roll of Smarties (not the chocolate kind).

This squirrel was checking me out and kept coming closer, hoping for a treat. I didn't have anything I thought he would eat, but I tossed him a Necco wafer and he actually ate it.

Sometimes I use Necco wafter to treat lows, but they take too long to eat and I didn't want to sit around too long since I had to get back to work.

I've got to remember to pack squirrel friendly treats when I go for my walks now.

Diabetes365 Day 1 - October 11, 2007

stinky_harriet posted a photo:

For the photo-diet project and Diabetes365.

My boss was practically crying because I hadn't baked anything recently, so I made the easy vegan pumpkin muffins that everyone loves. They were made non-vegan by the addition of Ghirardelli chocolate chips. A lot of the stuff I make at work is vegan simply because we have a tiny cube fridge, which means we can't always have things like eggs, butter and milk on hand. These muffins are made with whole wheat pastry flour and normally we put in dried fruit so there's no added fat, but the chocolate added a little and was definitely worth it. I used half sugar and half Splenda for the sweetener. Last time I used only Splenda and that's all I could taste.

I checked my blood sugar and it was 85. Normally I deduct fiber from my total carbohydrate count but only if it's 5 grams or more. I didn't deduct the fiber in the muffin but probably should have. I entered my blood sugar and carbs into my pump and it came up with a bolus of .6 units. My target during the day is 100, so the pump subtracted .3u due to my BG being lower than the target. My insulin:carb ratio for lunch through dinner is 1:30 so if I was at target I would have taken .9u.

133 calories
1.9g fat
2.8g protein
27.8g carb
3.8g fiber
