I was reading this article in a magazine, 'Practical Motorhome', and they tell you how to take better landscape photos.

Keep an eye on the position of the sun. The old saw in photographic circles was "always shoot with the sun over your shoulder". While this may be fine for some pictures, for landscapes it is often better if the sun is at an angle of 90 degrees - it will give your image some depth and also reveal texture, so it won't look as flast as it would if the sun were behind you.
